Ice Blue Gel - ILLEGAL ?

Its the Camphor that makes it banned for use under rules- I've been using Equistro EPF10 leg gel on my horses and its safe to use when competing.

I thought it was ok to use it AFTER the XC (assuming it's an ODE, so XC is last), as then it is not in effect whilst you're competing and will have worn off before the next event as long as that is at least a week or two away.

Am I wrong in doing that then?

In theory yes but as it does not say how long the withdrawal period is, helpful that, and the testing would usually take place after your xc, as there are other products on the market probably best to stay clear.

Testing is usually straight after XC, you have no way of knowing the withdrawal period or any way of knowing how fast it is/could be absorbed. Why take the risk when there are other legal products on the market?

And before you say I'm only doing intro, someone was tested and failed at Belmont intro either last year or the year before (can't remember which, think it was last year) from what I have heard...

What does camphor do to the horse ?

[/ QUOTE ]

Taken from wikipedia - "acts as slight local anesthetic"

Therefore numbs any pain and could make lame/sore horse appear not lame/sore?

Ah crap I get through plenty of that stuff in the summer if we're SJ on grass - suppose I should really get rid... Not very likely that a lowly little BSJA amateur like me's going to get tested, but I'd never have thought that using it would contravene BSJA rules! Might have to bite the bullet and buy a tub of clay instead, thanks to OP for posting or I'd have been blissfully unaware forever more!
