Hi, I'm looking for a couple of pairs of reasonably priced ice boots or similar. I want to ice horses legs after exercise and also in trailer on way home from lesson or comp so they need to be secure. Any recommendations or how do you ice your horses legs?

Ice vibe boots look great but need something to use whilst I save up!!

Thank yoy

The rep I spoke to at Badminton said that ice vibe was a confusion name as they were not really ice boots!

The main thing with whatever brand you buy is to make sure you take them off when they warm up.

Thank you. One school away from home I use is 10 mins so they would be perfect ( pe ones) and I could always use them at a comp whilst I faff putting stuff away and getting nag ready for home!! Will have a look, thank you x

Much easier for ice is to buy the wine bottle velcro wraps off amazon! just make sure you have a layer next to horses skin to stop risk of ice burns
PE ones are cool boots not ice

I've used Aerborn Coolsport boots which are similar to the Premier Equine ones, where it's got crystals which you activate by soaking it in water, which then becomes a cool gel

I have found that these boots provide a very nice all over pressure to the legs and works exactly as advertised, however by the end of the 20mins application period, they would have gone quite warm due to the heat of the horse's legs so they certainly do not stay as cold as ice, and the whole idea with cold hosing legs is to continuously have cold water on the legs in order to bring the legs/tendon's temperature down, so I don't think these boots can ever be as good as proper ice treatments.

You could also consider the type of wraps which you have in a freezer (until the contents are well and truly frozen) and as the outer layer is thick plastic, you can use it straight the legs. Like the Harpley Hot/Chilly wraps

With the above you could also choose to use it as warm wraps (instead of ice wraps) if you want more of a soothing effect on the legs prior to exercise, but obviously this isn't to be done post-exercise or injury, only the cold/ice treatment post injury/exercise.

Don't know if that would be an option if you want to use the boots at the competition venue, as they would have to be kept frozen until you use it, maybe in a coolbox with iceblocks.

Same goes for the brilliant Bonner bandages

If you want to avoid freezing the wraps/boots, then you could consider Equi-N-ice bandages

but you would need to top it up with coolant every so often in order to keep it working as it should.
