ICE Campaign - "In Case of Emergency"

We all carry our cell phone with names & numbers stored in its memory, but nobody, other than ourselves, knows which of these numbers belong to our closest family or friends.

If we were involved in an accident or were taken ill, the people attending us would have our mobile phone, but wouldn't know who to call. Which of the hundreds of numbers stored is for the best contact person in case of an emergency?

Hence this "ICE" (In Case of Emergency) Campaign -
The concept of "ICE" is catching on quickly. It's a method of contact during emergency situations. Since cell phones are carried by most people, all you need to do is enter the number of a contact person or persons who should be contacted during emergency under the name "ICE" ( In Case Of Emergency).

It was a paramedic's idea after going to the scenes of accidents where there were always mobile phones with patients, but he didn't know which number to call. He thought that it would be a good idea to create a nationally recognized name for this purpose. In an emergency situation, Emergency Service Personnel and Hospital Staff could quickly contact the right person by simply dialing the number you have stored as "ICE."

For more than one contact name simply enter ICE1, ICE2, and ICE3, etc. It's a great idea that will make a difference In Case of Emergency!

Let's spread the concept of ICE by entering ICE numbers in our cell phones today!

ICE will speak for you when you can't speak for yourself.

I agree that everyone should know about ICE.

It is even useful for times like when I stupidly left my handbag on a train - some kind person rang me up.

I've heard of this before, but surely the easiest thing to do would look in the "last dialled/received" list on phones (most are acessed simply by hitting the green "call" button once) and there will likely be a home/regularly called number who can either help or know who to get in touch with to help.

Plus, many people have their nearest and dearest on speedial, so simply trying a direct dial from a number key would do the trick.

To be honest, in the heat of the moment, I'd probably look for those before an ICE number.

Also, if you save, for example, your husband's no. as ICE1, will your caller display not show up "ICE1" everytime he calls you instead of showing "husband"? That would really annoy me!

I used to do this - and I took the ICE numbers out of my mobile for that exact reason, my phone got too confused about having the same number under ICE and my husbands name!

Now I don't have a husband I do have a number stored under 'Mum' which I hope would show people that she is my NOK

Sorry, I don't wish to be flippant or derogratory about this idea, it just didn't work for me personally

My phone must be very intelligent because it copes with having OH's number under OH and ICE - it always comes up OH when he calls me. I also have ICEHORSE on my phone with the vet's number, in case the horse needs assistance as well. I too teach this to riding and road safety candidates. The point is, the more people use ICE numbers on their phones, the more likely they are looked for and used.

ice horse or vet is a great idea, i have a dogs collar tag on my saddle with my name and number and emergency number on.... just incase horse gallops off ect

I wouldn't have anyone that they could call anyway as none of my family live anywhere near me.

I had to go get help for 1 of the other liveries today when she came off on the XC course. I saw her on the floor with her pony standing over her, checked she was OK (just bruised and winded), cantered off to get help, then lead Charlie and her pony back home.

I have ICE Rob too - not the same one is it?! Actually is my ex, but I figured if anything does happen to me the most important thing is to make sure the kids are okay and he is the obvious choice for that, and hopefully he would know who to contact for animals.
Sorry this is in reply to Thistle.
