Vet been out to see horse who is recovering from check ligament injury and on week 7 of walking. I was worried about a bit of heat and a rather prominent blood vessel on the inside of her leg. Leg scanned and no holes/tears - just a bit of scar tissue.

Anyway vet said to continue walking and to apply Ice Tight or similar every other day to help take heat out of leg. Have done a bit of research and not sure its the best thing for her. Any thoughts from anyone? Have got the Carr, Day & Martin arnica and witchhazel gel in fridge already. Plan was to Ice Tight and leave overnight with no bandages when she's out in field.

Obviously I want to do the best for her so if there is anything that will help, let me know!!

Is she good to handle? You could tubigrip her legs, so the tubigrip is doubled over and then put ice packs in (those freezer bags you get in Poundland are great for this). These don't heat up which Ice Tight does- I'm not a massive fan for cooling legs with it unless it's washed off after about 20 minutes...
 
I wouldn't use ice tight etc unless you are going to bandage over the top as they don't work properly if you don't, ice boots are really good and only need to be left on for 15 mins normally, may be worth investing in if you are going to need them long term, could be cheaper in the long run. Also have you thought about a pair of magnetic boots to aid healing?
 
I have just started using staytite gel after xc and am very impressed with the results so far. It contains arnica, msm and calendula so nothing nasty, I bought it from horse health. I do use it in conjunction with ice boots but put it on after we take the boots off and for 24 hours after and we no longer get any filling or heat.

Icetight works through evaporation and bandaging just makes the clay an insulator!
 
i wouldn't use any of those clay type products - you dont see any of the top riders using them anymore. I'd go with cold therapy - either hosing, boots, ice packs etc and then witch hazel/arnica gel. no bandages.
 
I use a cooling gel rather than clay. Think its called White Ice - it doesn't contain isopropanol which dries the skin out. It really cools, no bandages.
