iced in and can't get to horses :( who else?

I've seen it in our B&Q perhaps they had sold out. You could phone any other local DIY stores. Or as I say buy economy cat litter and use that.

I appreciate that a full 15 minute drive is a lot of gritting to do but you probably wouldn't need to do the lot. I drove on ungritted roads this morning and was fine as I took it steady and gave myself lots of room. If you take the grit with you you can do any nasty bits or get yourself unstuck if you need to.

Some places will have melted in the sun or due to volume of traffic even on country lanes, or they have near us.

B and Q in Southampton sell salt for roads, its like a massive salt shaker, I must have looked a right wally 'salting' my drive way this morning but it did the trick!

haven't ridden since sunday, hes been in anyway as in full time now the frost has come, can just about get him onto the walker, but we salt the yard lots...

Unless we have a freak heatwave in the next 2 hours, my horses will be staying OUT tonight. I will feed and hay them, make sure their water trough is all OK and put a heavier rug on Lanky, but they will be fine. They have coats like polar bears this year, which must be due to the colder temps earlier.

To get to our field we have to walk about 100 yards down a road (country lane). It was -5 out there this morning when I left the house at 8am and has rained and frozen again since. I won't be chancing it if the road is trecherous. The horses will be happy enough out. George only came in from 24/7 turnout about a month ago anyway!

Its a nightmare! I'm really struggling too. Wee corsa is not convinced about a half hour drive in the snow and ice! Had to park a mile or so away today and walk the rest. Haven't ridden/exercised the horse since Friday but luckily he lives out so he should cope!

It was so icy on the yard this morning, that I mucked out onto the ice outside the stables, spread it about and it will stay there until it thaws.....I dont care what it looks like as long as it is safe

I can get the the yard fine but my mare has been iced into her stable for nearly a week. She always bounces out merrily first thing in the morning and I can't risk it on sheet ice. She seems to be coping OK so far, thanks to mountains of hay, carrot stretches, toys and treats, lots of grooming and a bucket of grass hand picked by me every day!

The ice seems to have been the main problem for everyone. Have managed to get out and about without any problem though, thankfully. And horses have geen turned out without a problem as well.

Luckily the thaw is setting in for us now.
