I have a few feeding questions. . .
At the moment my boy is just lacking a bit of energy. . .

My horse is on 1/2 mix, 1/2 chaff, biotin, garlic and oil. He gets this once a day. He goes out at night onto a field with pretty decent grass in and then gets hay through the day.

Would giving him this feed twice a day give him a bit more energy or would it be better to add something to the one feed he gets allready. . .?

If it would be to add something. . .what could i add?

I will ask people at the yard tomorow but i thought i would ask on here as people on here are always full of helpful ideas

What mix are you feeding and what chaff are you feeding? Do you mean he gets half a scoop of mix and half a scoop of chaff, or that you feed mix and chaff in a 50:50 ratio? If scoops, do you know how much each scoop weighs? Do you know whether you are feeding the recommended amount of mix, as if you are feeding significantly less than the recommended amount then he may not be getting all his vits and mins.

He gets half a scoop of each. . . the scoops are the round ones like half circle with a handle. . .dont know what weight it is. . .

Mix havnt got a clue. . .chaff is ALFA-A ORIGINAL. . .just read up on amounts for that and is i was to go for what they say to feed for a medium horse in light to medium work he needs more. . .i think you answered my question with the idea he is getting significantly less than what is recommended for his type. . .mmm and im guessing that it would be the same with the mix. . .ok well i think tomorrow im going to have another looks at what he needs

thanks

The amount of Alfa A suggested is probably that required when fed alone, rather than when fed alongside another feed such as a mix. You need to find out the manufacturer of the mix and what type of mix it is (pasture mix, competition mix etc). If it is one of the recognised major brands (Spillers, Dodson & Horrell, Baileys etc.) you can ring their feedline and get a suggestion of how much to feed according to your horse's size and workload.

Ok well i think then what i will do is as you said find out the maker of the mix and find out amounts and all. . .

I thought about putting him on something like a competition mix but i really dont want to make him fizzy. . .but im sure that they dont all make them fizzy but wouldnt know where to start
