what's everyone up to then?

STILL nothing here, no fun money available for good times until regionals, boo.
So a bit of snow dodging, try and get Salty out hacking again if the weather isn't too wild (she was a complete loon in the wind and peeing rain last weekend) and same old, same old. Need to do some fencing for the old dears too, at the moment I am posting Millie back to the correct side of the fence DAILY

She's not bothered...

Have fun everyone

Is she jumping or limboing?

Everything is frozen solid here, so nothing to do now as even the roads are too icy. But, happily I have an indoor arena booked with some friends for Sunday, it may well be the next time she is worked if it doesn't brighten up!

Feeling quite positive though, she has been turned away for most of the winter as mum has not been well, bit we have done a couple of arena hires and last night we did her first riding club lesson. We were both unfit and out of practice but did what we had to do in the right places, and that was with ponies and other horses scooting around, so not bad for an under worked baby!

no definitive evidence either way as the ground has been so dry I can't find any giveaway hoof prints - I suspect that she does both! the fence posts are 4' high but she has always jumped my electric fences... and her coat is so thick I doubt she feels the shock. a couple of months back she let herself into the haylage stored in the field, chewed through the wrap and started a buffet! tbh we might as well just let them have the run of the place now, she's making a mockery of our attempts to hold some back

At the moment we are hoping to do our first IPS show (a working hunter training one) on Saturday morning, but given the state of the roads, the weather forecast, and the fact that if our school doesn't thaw the ponies won't have been exercised Thurs or Fri, then I'm really not sure whether we will make it or not. Its not particularly close, about one and a half hours, and it would be the first two classes so a very early start.

If that doesn't happen, then I'll need to see if we can hack later in the day on Sat, and look about to find something to do on Sun, through the forecast for Sun is rain/snow.

Hate winter :(

Nothing horsey doing here either. I've reached that point in winter where I just lose the will and go into hibernation until March. So I'm doing bits and pieces here and there, and apart from that, no plans .
Did some in hand stuff with the big idiot this morning - he was v jolly, which was, um, interesting given the size of him and that by that point I had lost useful sensation in most of my limbs....he then clattered a raised pole, had a minor breakdown, decided he couldn't possibly go near a single pole ever again much less walk over it, and then we spent the rest of the time discovering that he could, after which he thought he was v brave and v clever and therefore was delighted with himself and ended the session even more jolly than he started it.

And that about sums up the level of professionalism being reached by me and my horses currently....

Staring sulkily out of the window mainly. And breaking ice on the troughs. It is -8 here today.
In theory the girls are arena eventing for NSEA on Saturday. And I am showjumping on Sunday. If we do get there the ponies won't have been ridden for over a week and Amber will only have had 1 outing in 2 weeks. Could be interesting....

Nope.
Was booked in for rc grid work on Sunday, but B Fuzzy had 1 wolf tooth and splinters of another removed last week on Tues and was advised to give 2 weeks off. Luckily no infection on either side (splinter side looked a bit sore before vet started) and all healing well.
I checked the weather before booking it in..... am not a sub zero temp rider really lol

Working from home today and tomorrow so had a lesson on my lunch break, arena wasn't great so plans to work on canter transitions went out the window. On the plus side we cracked a couple of strides of shoulder-in and leg yield is coming on in leaps and bounds so very pleased.

Quiet weekend as it's supposed to hit quite hard tonight and tomorrow so just trying to contain beast on an amble around the yard is enough for me!

Good luck to all of those out and about, DabDab I totally empathise and if beastie was able to go out at all I'd be doing exactly the same.

(Hopefully, weather dependant) I will be picking up my new horsebox on Saturday :D we look a bit fancier now (still haven't sold my old one though....) nothing else planned riding wise, he's had quite a bit of time off due to weather and holidays etc so i'm a bit worried about the next time I jump, which will be a clinic on the 10th, as i'm likely to have taken a step back confidence wise. Which is annoying as I was just starting with the 80 courses!

Taking badger for our first dressage test on Sunday. Thankfully it’s a venue with an indoor warm up! I’m a bit worried because I’ve not yet been able to ride and it’s only looking to stay the same - I don’t want a fresh lil pony on our first time out!

Off to a mark Corbett clinic on Sunday, in a nice indoor school 😊 other then that it will be weather dependent, should be able to school on Saturday as not looking like we will get much of the white stuff tonight. Managed a quick jump on Monday as a little practice but have done absolutely nothing with him since, so might be interesting

Mine are doing nothing but eat money (sorry hay) all day and night. We had snow a week ago and its been so cold here that it just hasnt budged at all. -3 all day today and -6 when I came home at 5 :( Fed up carrying water to the field since the taps are all frozen solid. Cant ride as roads too icy and field is frozen solid. My horse trailer is full of junk destined for the rubbish dump but roads are too icy to tow. Enjoy your horses folks!

I’m supposed to be going to RC dressage on Sunday. Hoping it will be ok to tow and arena not frozen solid. As it hasnt got above freezing today, I’m not hopeful.

We’re supposed to be going to dressage on Saturday. Second ever attempt at a long arena test as a practice for doing their first affiliated next month (I can only find long arena BD at prelim locally).

It’s an outdoor school so unsure if it’ll be snowed off. I won’t be too disappointed if it is- he’s a mainly white coloured who lives out and his legs are currently revolting. Not looking forward to washing them in the snow at 7am! I don’t think he’ll be keen either!

We are having rather the opposite, with it set to get to 40C today. And I have a clinic o_O. Thankfully it's in the evening and I am hoping the sea breeze is in. We will get some relief over the weekend when it drops back into the 30's which is just as well as we are also going XC training on Sunday in the middle of the day. Going to be very careful with the horses and myself this weekend!

Keep warm all, please feel free to send snow and ice our way.

Bonkers weather all round then. Seen quite a few cancellations already so not sure if our first quest outing will go ahead on Sunday. Am expecting to to be blooming cold if it does. It’s the drive over that will be the problem.

Dec and Jan was a wash out with one thing and another, so ofc now the weather puts things on hold. Grrrrrrrrr.

Picking up a new trailer tomorrow :D One of mine has decided he doesn't like unloading backwards so new trailer it is - pretty sad as I really love my Sinclair and it's just been fully refurbished but the neddies always decide!

Other than that, hopefully getting ponies to the field without anyone getting injured and hacking to get them back into work after a good few days doing nothing :(

Nothing for us - too snowy and icy and have narrow country hills to negotiate. May try to go to Sandown racing tomorrow if it is on and roads okay, if not watch it and Leopardstown on TV.

Lesson cancelled and snow everywhere. Spent half an hour this afternoon helping to push a BMW 100 metres up a snowy lane to get back on the main road!

The local dressage this weekend has been cancelled, so I'm just playing at home. Flat tomorrow and jumping on Sunday.

I've got an off-yard lesson on Tuesday which I'm looking forward to. I haven't done one of those with the big cob so it will be interesting to get an outsider's view on our efforts.

Plans ? Walking very slowly to the field and back again ... trying to avoid injury

I was feeling guilty about sending the big lad away to boarding school but actually if he was at home I’d feel guilty about him getting no work as everything is frozen up!

So he’s in the best place with the best facilities with a great rider so he’s doing one heck of a lot more than hed be doing here ... cobbo is getting a holiday cos we can barely get across the yard

I feel hibernating as well;)

No horse stuff this week going to Wigan to look at property with oh it's work stuff, we are staying over tomorrow night so will get a nice meal somewhere and of course some wine:D

MP I have a serial fence wrecker I rest half of my field and then let them have it over Christmas, his fine until I start moving the fence and then he just think he can help himself, 3 times I found the fence destroyed with him on the rested bit, my other horse won't venture onto it even with the fence down far too scary stepping over it lol!
