I have an ID/TB Filly who has Sandy's Light as a sire. He is a RID.

Looking through allbreeds I am confused at how many of his ancestors are TB.

I am wondering, was there a point in time where a line was drawn and a type became a breed?

I am very confused.

I am also very alarmed at some of the foreleg confirmation from the past :p

Thanks :)

Yours is pretty consistently ID. I don't know about foreleg CONFORMATION! But ID is really a type, not a breed in the way Arabs or TBs are. ID only established in mid -1930s. Warm bloods are similar. ID x TB = Irish Sport Horse. Lots of info on the breed on Internet...

Not quite. ISH is not necessarily ID x TB. ISH is a type in the same way as KWPN. ID is definitely a breed with strict grading and breed standards. There are a number of ISH around who are Wb x TB or WB x ID..

This is how I see it regarding the iD, that's why I was so surprised to see pure TB in there relatively recently.

I have been reading online but I am just confusing myself now :p

Pinzari 1957 is a TB and there is also WB and even a pure Trakhener in there!

At times other breeds were introduced to improve the breed which is something that other breed programmes will do. As an example, Accomdy was a pure reg TB but was approved by the British Hanovarian society so his offspring could have been graded as "pure" Hanovarian. I suppose you could raise the point that the only breeds which do not do this now are TBs and Arabs but even TBs were originally bred with Arabs.

Search on the Irish horse board web pages and you might have more joy in finding out about your mares breeding. The Irish ID gene pool isn't that big!

I also have an ID x TB but am struggling to find any information on the ID side of his breeding!! I have met Sandys Light, what a stunning horse and a wonderful person. I would never have thought that there was TB in there!!
