Here are some pictures taken today of our newest and very special member of our herd. Her stable name is Trixie and she is the sister of my stallion and we think she is just lovely.

I collected her on Sunday but the weather has been awful so haven't been able to get decent photos of her till today. Anyway I took her out for a little play - she seemed to enjoy herself tremendously.....to say she was excited was an understatement, LOL!! Then I remembered she has never been on her own before, so I went and collected Little Jill, who calmed her down immediately.

Here she is wondering what the boys are up to galloping around their field.

Hey boys!! I can strut my stuff too!!

Woah! Is that another puddle!

But hey, my really good friend has just gone up that way!!

Okay, I'm calm now - you can take me back to my field.

LOL!! I had to edit - gave me a bit of a fright when I was expecting to see a Paint and all that was there was our grey pony wearing a wedding veil, LOL!!

Yes and I am so happy!! She is truly lovely. The interesting thing is, she is living in the field next door to her brother and his little band of ladies.......and he really really dislikes her! Most weird as he likes everyone - but suits me perfectly...at least until he is gelded anyway

Soooooo pleased that she has found a good home with you.
I still like her very much, the leg problem doesn't stop her moving does it? Lovely colour, probably just as well Ezzy doesn't fancy her!

You know what? I see a definite improvement daily! She is galloping around quite freely, her walking is much improved and I actually think that she will get over this without any surgery.....so I am really pleased. I'll still reassess her at the beginning of the Spring and if I feel she isn't at the stage I would hope for, then we may consider surgery; but for now we'll be patient and see what nature (and some physio) brings.

Oh Tia.

I feel really choked. She's even more beautiful than I imagined! I think I'm in love. She looks like she's in love too from the first picture...little hussy pose!

I'm so glad you got her. Isn't she like Ezzy though....very spooky!

Thank you for the pics, I've just been DYING to see her! She's in much better condition than I thought she'd be in too.

Yes Trixie has upward fixation of the patella too. I've only had her for a few days but already she seems to be doing just fine. Trixie is rising 3 and I am really hopeful that with exercises and putting her in one of my fields on a hill, it will help her make a complete recovery without medical intervention.

It certainly doesn't stop her from getting around at any speed though and she has this knack of being able to unlock her patella in mid-stride.

First time for everything unfortunately.

Can you believe that we are still in + temperatures and still have no snow! Remember 3 years ago when I first moved here, all that snow!

The mud here isn't like in England though thank goodness. When you step on it you expect to disappear in like you would in England.....but you don't! Only the soles of your boots get muddy so you don't sink much further than about half an inch into it.

I'm so glad I decided to go for her too. She is a treasure of a horse.

my 3 year old started with it when he just turned 2... it has got worse! i am gutted!
we have spent the best part of £2000 on an operation in august trying to make it better but its still as bad! (they put lots of little holes in the ligaments)
he to flys about the feild like a crazy man and can jump for fun( out of the field when he cant stop in time!) but he can hardley turn in the stable and finds working on the right rein very difficult.
it's causing me haert ache, and although it dont seem to hurt him, i find him worried looking when its stuck!
i just dont know what to do!
.... its in both legs!!

Yes she is looking better and better each day. The rainscald really isn't as bad as I had been led to believe and her UFP is nowhere near as bad as I expected so I am pretty chuffed.

When I first met her, I couldn't believe how alike she was to Ezzy - it's still a bit freaky now!

Here is a picture on them next to one another:

Here is a picture of Ezzy a year ago - he has grown since then though:

But they do look like each other.

You know I had been wondering about that. It is really strange because Ezzy loves everyone. He is completely non-aggressive and although he hasn't been aggressive to her, he has definitely not been happy at her being anywhere near the fenceline. He'll chill though I'm sure, it might just be because of the in-foal mares. Anyway there won't be any hanky-panky between them as she is moving out of this field in a few days time and going into one with a big hill and that is right over the other side of the corral from him.

Have you tried physiotherapy exercises with him? Trixie has it in both legs too but one is worse than the other. I took her up and down the hill today and she coped really well today but when I took her up there the first day, she almost collapsed so maybe she has good days and bad days; I've only had her a few days so can't really judge that as yet.

She certainly copes with it perfectly well though. I would like her for a riding horse but if it isn't to be then she will be a great babysitter for all the foals here. She is wonderful with the babies and this is the field she is in at the moment. She really takes good care of them so if that ends up being her job then I'm happy with that. I've plenty other riding horses so not the end of the world.

I don't mind having the odd cripple LOL!! Her brother is one too, and his job is to make babies with other mares.....he doesn't complain and is happy with that job

Thank you everyone for your lovely comments. Will keep you up to date on her progress - I have a sneeking suspicion she will be here for many many years to come.

Tia - you old softy

Watch out though you start with one, then you get a one eyed cat, one eyed horse, and assorted ancient animals that no one wants....

I am very pleased you got her - she looks lovely and I am sure will produce lovely foals or hopefully turn out to be a great riding horse.

I know
crazy.gif
........great businesswoman me eh?

I don't intend breeding Trixie though - she will either be a riding horse or a competent babysitter to other mare's foals. It all depends on how well she recovers. She is a real pleasure to have around though and I am enjoying spending time with her. She's awfully affectionate and cuddly - like she's lived here all her life.

Trixie-Jane......it has a certain ring to it

. I think by the sounds of it, you should be Handywoman Jane though
