Have been looking at this a while and finally went to see her on Sunday! She's by Old Leighlin (ID x TB) who has had some very good eventers and is still hunting himself at nearly 20 years old, out of a Connemara JC pony that also did everything and was on PC teams and stuff. She's 5, is very overweight and hasn't seen a farrier since about Christmas so they need sorting out (you can't see them in the pic's and I'm not showing you until my farrier has been, lol!; has been sat on but done absolutely zilch, a complete blank canvas; she's also nearly 15 hands which is a hand bigger than I was told but that's a bonus! I have to admit to not liking her stable name so suggestions welcomed! ATM, I have Quill and Lacey hovering in mind and someone suggested Fergie as she's very portly!
This was what I saw on Sunday -

We collected her today which was quite exciting as she's never even been inside a trailer before let alone a box! At first, she didn't have a clue what to do, we weren't in the ideal place (completely open lawn with horses shouting just a yard away and dogs running around her back end!) so the dogs got put indoors, we fetched her dam out of the field and loaded her first. Even then, she was very suspicious and I had to lift each front foot for every step until we got the back ones on the ramp. Anyway, finally got her on, got the mare off and swung the partitions shut; que lots of shouting and ducking and diving so the ramp was up and we were down the drive like diving rabbits! Needless to say, lots of shouting and rolling from side to side for a while but once we got on the M5 it all went quiet and we hardly heard her the rest of the way home. Felt a bit sorry for her really as it must have been like another weaning for her as she's never left home before! Opened the ramp to be greeted by a sauna and she was totally dripping, it was running off her belly and eyebrows but after a bit of a leap of the ramp and she got her feet onto solid land again she cheered up. She hasn't seen a thing, she was even jumpy about me opening a gate and then the stable door but she went in her box easily enough and stood there snorting as if there were devils around, poor girl. Left her for a while to settle then went out to sponge her down and she loved the attention so while she was feeling settled I razored her mane too - I did NOT cut her topnotch or tail, they were already done but hopefully it won't take too long to grow out.
Anyway, this is her now tucking into some hay which she does not need at all but she needs a bit of comfort after her horrendous day.

Pretty head, she looks like she will be a nice little horse once she starts working properly and builds some muscle. Please keep us updated.

She looks so much better for a mane tidy .... a bit of weight off, some length to that tail and she'll look even better.

How about Tequila

Is she for you to ride? She's be a nice size for you.

I like her a lot. But I'm a sucker for a grey mare!
How did you do her mane? What do you mean by razoed, I can't pull my ponies mane and I want to have a go!

She is beautiful, cannot wait to hear updates on her.
I have known a 'Quill' cracking mare she was brilliant, lovely name too imo so that gets my vote.

Very nicely put together mare.....am looking forward to seeing her in a month or two once she has got her tum under control!

Am rubbish at names so would end up calling her something like Rose.

Thank you, she seems a real sweetie so far.

I use a dog stripping comb which has a razor inside so you can comb through from the underneath and trim to the length you want then you can thin it out normally, great for straggly manes that haven't been touched before. Mine's an older model than this one but the same idea. I've had it for years and wouldn't be without it even those that don't like their manes pulled seem to get on with this and it doesn't look cut like it can with a solo comb or scissors. Hers just needs a wash now to get the tacky grease out and then I can thin and trim it better.

Thanks J! Can't stand that drink, lol!

I hope so, will be good to get back on board but there's a lot of long reining to come first so I know she's good in traffic; I'm too old to be a kamikaze now!

She looks a nice sort Pat and like others have said with some tightening up she will look even better
smile.gif

I do like Quill also as it reminds me of feathers, don't know how that relates to a horse though lol. I also like Quiver too since that is what she was doing ( sort of) when you took her home, with it being all new to her. But not sure if Quiver sounds more of a masculine name?

She is lovely - do you want to sell her yet?

I hope you have a great time together.

I think she is gorgeous, I think she would make an Intermediate worker(they are worth a fortune) her conformation is good. The previous people look like they cut the top notch far back, never mind it will soon grow back, we had a coloured from Ireland once and it had a 6in top notch, whilst it was growing out my sister used to call it his coomb(sp!)
As for names I would be adventerous and call her Shadow, original in know but like it.
