I won't give mine as I want to see what others think and people I know may see this.

It's regarding your local show.

Do you or do you not help out with setting up and taking down of the show?

You pay a membership fee, you pay for your classes so should you also be expected to help with the set up the days before? Do you help because its all part of the friendliness of the show and without help it couldn't go on?

Just a musing really. And for clarification, I am talking your local, unaffiliated friendly show where everyone knows everyone else and it's all for fun.

Thanks

Well, we used to be hugely involved in our RC. My mum was on the committee for 7 years, I ran the league for that time, we were there to set up, there at the start of the show and would spend time doing arena party for the SJ or dressage stewarding or writing if they needed us, around my sister and I competing too. We were usually there at the end too, packing away.

Now, we do **** all and it's lovely :D Feels a bit like we've done our time (and then some) and we were fed up of putting endless hours in for no gratitude and whinging. So we upped and left, and just rock up to shows, do what we like and then go home.

Absolutely - shows will not run or will cost twice as much without volunteers. Organisers usually make nothing themselves, especially RC events.

What people do not understand is that it is all voluntary and memberships fees go nowhere. If the RC is affiliated to BRC £10 of every membership fee goes to BRC mainly to pay for insurance. There is also an additional fee if you have over 100 members.

No volunteers = no affordable events.
