Hi. Was wondering what everyone's ideal livery would be and how close they are to having it.

For me it would be large stable with rubber matting that looks our onto other stables in the outdoor yard. Beautiful off road hacking for miles and miles and miles all year round. Friendly knowing horse people who support each other. Also a place where you and your horse could grow together in what ever discipline you choose, which for me would be Western and Le Trec.

I have good hacking in summer and nice people and stable.

Lovely paddocks that can provide all year turnout. Helpful liveries with no bitching etc. Miles and miles of off road hacking. Indoor school. Horse walker. Lovely big stables.

I have all of that already, part from the walker, indoor and off road hacking.

Mine would be to have a large hilly field for the horses with trees for shelter, at least 12 acres. There would be an adjoining large brick built barn allowing the horses to go in and out as they please. I would put a bed down in the barn for my older pony to lie on (well probably pee on!).

There would be an area of hardstanding outside the barn to provide a fenced off yarding area to feed hay and keep them off the grass for a few hours a day for laminitic/barefoot reasons.

There would be at least 4 horses there, so one is never on it's own.

We would have also chickens and a veggie patch in one area fenced off in the field, and there would be tea making facilities and a picnic bench to make it a real home from home.

I would like access to lots of different rides through woodland, farmland, quiet lanes and somewhere where we could put up some small xc jumps running in a circular route through a wood and just blast around it!!.

A small sand school would be a bonus, but is at the bottom of the wish.

Finally, I would love to live on site :) A dream come true that would be!!.

Nice tidy livery yard. Offers DIY but if you need holiday livery, part livery, turn out services th ey are available. Good hacking, on road and off road, Good sized arena's, decent forage provided, all year turnout.
My livery would be perfect if we had better winter turnout :D
I am 17 miles south of Gretna so I can hack along Hadrians wall :D

I'm happy with what Ive got at the moment. Approx 25 acres, large indoor american barn with kitchen facilities, 24 hr turnout (all year) myself and two others rent the place from a lovely lady ... us girlies all get on and help each other as and when we can ... the yard is approx 1.5 miles from my home (walkable in snowy winters). We all have at least two horses so there's never one left on its own if one decided to keep out and the others are in. Located just off a main road which isnt too good but bridlepaths/country roads approx 5 mins walk up the road.

If I were to ever move, I'd want something with a menage - there's a large local one (free to use) approx 20 mins walk from the yard which is great but wish we had one on-site :)

We're looking at renting our place out next year and renting somewhere with it's own stables/land. Last week I came across a detached house with x6 stables (I only need 2), 3 acres of land and a menage (well kind of) all for only £850 per month! Unfortunately it had already gone but that would have been perfect :(

We are already at that yard! :)

I've got a nice big stable, lots of grass, smallish arena and a big field to ride round on a lovely friendly yard but if I could have more I'd like auto water in my stable and on the door step brill off road hacking.

I'm pretty happy with my yard. We have:

Year round turnout on hilly fields with trees and dry stone walls for shelter (though would be better if there were more fields for rotation as there isn't much grass really and they get pretty boggy in winter)
Nice big stables in indoor barns, many of which have drinkers and rubber mats. Would prefer if all of the drinkers worked and they all had mats and our horse would possibly be happier with a traditional yard arrangement rather than american barns but it's a minor point.
Indoor and outdoor school with floodlights. If I was being really picky I'd make the indoor bigger and improve the surface a bit but it is entirely useable.
Lockable tack room
Storage for feed etc
Option to be DIY or full livery and entirely flexible packages - this is probably one of the best things for me! They don't exercise full liveries but I wouldn't want that anyway.
Can book the school for up to two hours a week for private use for no extra charge.
Can bring all of your own professionals (Instructor, vet, farrier etc)
Have onsite instructors if you want them.
Have trailer storage (although it is expensive)
Use of jumps (although pretty limited)
Great hacking but mainly on roads.

I'm not too bothered about having a walker. I would love a proper washbox with warm water and heat lamps, and would also like better jumping facilities, a xc course and some more off road riding (it is difficult to do any fast work where we are).

We have lovely people though which is the main thing so I wouldn't move.

Would u mind teling me where u are? pm me if you prefer :) im looking for a yard arounbd leics way and am desperate as im not having much luck!

The yard I'm at now is perfect for me. 20 mins walk from my house, it's a private yard with a few selected liveries, Huge feed store, large boxes, choice of grass/DIY/full livery. We have 100 acres of grazing ! Split into smaller fields during the spring/summer, but opened up to the full 100 acres over winter. The grazing is old pasture, has hills and flat areas, is surrounded by mature woodland and hedges so plenty of natural shelter. Horses can live out all year round and it's not excessively muddy in winter/wet weather. A huge locked tackroom with 2 resident GSD's. Yard owner lives on the premises and the house adjoins the converted barn stabling. Washing machine for rugs etc. Constant hot water and several outdoor taps for cold water. Grass liveries can have the use of a stable for shows/box rest or even to bring the pony in for feeds/grooming etc. Miles and miles of off road hacking. A small school for lungeing, large school for flatwork & jumping and a 3rd school with a full set of showjumps that's also big enough for 2 60x40 dressage arenas. Regular shows held at the yard. I have 1 on grass livery (2yo NF pony),and am collecting another youngster (3yo Welsh D) on Thursday who will be kept on DIY. I love this yard :D.

The yard we are at is pretty much perfect for my horses. They have their own turnout field, Cappy (17-3hh) has a huge 16 x 20 stable with automatic water feeder and Fany's is also bigger than average. We have a huge indoor school. Fany gets winter turnout, ( Cappy doesn't want it!) Good hacking from the yard. But more important than the facilities are the care my horses get when I can't get there, caring and comprehensive by an extremely knowledgeable YO who knows my 2 very well and knows their needs and preferences. Also excellent home grown haylage and pure spring water, from own spring rather than tap.

Overall for us our yard is fantastic!

I think I've got my ideal livery already. Although we're on grass livery, if we wanted part livery then there are huge stables in a huge purpose-built barn, with wash down facilities, grooming/tacking up area, there's a heated rug room, plenty of tack storage, kitchen, large outdoor arena, smaller outdoor menage, lunge pit and acres of all year turnout. And miles of bridleways.

As grass livery we access all the facilities, just don't have the stable.

If I was being picky then an indoor school and it would be lovely to be able to walk or cycle there with the kids without being in fear of my life. But it's only a few minutes's drive.

If you are in Leicestershire it will probably be too far for you as it is North of Derby. Although we have got a couple of spaces at the mo.

Mine is pretty close to ideal:

- large, airy stables
- good forage, feed and bedding provided
- trustworthy staff and good day-to-day care
- good post-and-rail turnout with enough land to rotate grazing - 24 hr turnout available if required
- good facilities - all well-maintained
- lots of land to hack on, plus some on-road hacking to get out and about
- on-site loos (clean), changing facilities and secure storage area for liveries, plus office with log burner, fridge microwave and tea/coffee-making stuff
- competitions, clinics and demos

What would make it perfect:

- closer to home (my back garden would be pretty perfect!)
- a large indoor arena
- a horsewalker
- about half the price!!!
