Ideal Saddles; sizings, styles etc. Help pls!

hello everybody, please can i tap your knowledge?

Millie has had her Ideal Impala jump saddle for about 2 months now and it has made a huge difference to her way of going, shape over a fence etc.

her current dressage saddle is an old Passier which i love but i have a feeling is getting a little tight as she has built up so much since it was purchased last autumn.

i have seen a 17.5" wide fitting Ideal Suzannah for sale, the same size as her new jump saddle- is it likely to fit as nicely as her Impala or would that just be too simple??

and are they nice to ride in? if you like/don't like the Suzannah what sort of saddles do you usually like?

I have the Impala Pro and the Suzannah and love them both. The Pro was MtM and the suzannah off the rack but the dressage has always fitted slightly better.

I have to have the Pro altered quite regularly but this may be because I use it so much more. It also came with quite a hard flock versus the soft flock in the dressage and has been better since re-flocked and softened a bit.
Haven't ridden in many dressage saddles but think I prefer a sort of medium block saddle rather than a very simple (non-blocky) saddle.

I'm sure that was no help at all!! :D
 
glad to hear the Ideals seem to fit in a similar way.

ihatework- i think the issue with the Passier now is that she has outgrown the shape of it. she used to be a typical tb shape but has broadened up so much behind her withers i think she needs a dressage saddle with flatter panels like her jump saddle..

Matafleur, sod's law about the off the rack fitting better than MtM!! :)
Millie's Impala is quite soft and pliable on the panels but she gets worked in a sheepskin numnah all the time anyway (she is allergic to flies and a normal numnah can irritate the bites).

It's not so much the tree shape, it's what they are like to ride in.

The Passiers tend to be fairly minimalist, whereas the Suzannah's are on the bulky/blocky side.

So as you were saying you loved your Passier I would say try before you buy most definitely for the Suzannah, I have a Suzannah and love it but they wouldn't suit everyone.
 
thanks for that- i also love the Jaguars which are quite blocky?

the only thing i was concerned about was that the Suzannah looks like is has a ridiculously deep seat- i do prefer a flatter seat which i can actually move in.

will have an ask about and see if anyone has one i can try and see if i like it.

my new horse came with her ideal jessica and its very comfy and non restrictive - theres a bit of block at front but nothing like my old saddle.
 
A majority of ideal dr saddles are quite blocky in my experience. I think youd find the jessica and the suzanna too wide in the twist. The roella may be worth looking at, or the elizabeth :)
 
I had an Impala and a Suzannah made for Katy, both to the same wither pattern.
I love the Suzannah to ride in. It feels as if it is moulded around my most comfortable leg position etc. Nothing forcing or blocky imho.
Mine's a medium fitting, is that too narrow for your girl? You're welcome to try it otherwise. I'm vaguely thinking of selling it anyway, not 100% sure.

thank you for that. unfortunately Millie is in a wide fitting Impala so i would be looking for a wide Suzannah.

her Passier is a medium but i think it is getting a bit tight and sitting up a bit too much- she is still going really nicely in it but i think it needs replacing sooner rather than later.

the Suzannah i am looking at doesn't look very blocky; my only concern is that the seat looks very, very deep with a particularly high back and i'm a bit concerned it looks like it may push you onto your fork.
