Daughter has bought grand daughter a Sec A pony. We know the pony is obese with a crest and she wobbles a bit as she walks. We weigh taped her yesterday to see how much weight we need to get off her and OMG if the tape is to believed she weighs in the region of 290 kgs
She doesn't and won't get any hard feed apart from a handful (literally) of Healthy Hooves after being ridden. We feed ad lib hay in the field during the winter so she will have access to that and any grass we have. She won't be rugged over winter so will lose some weight keeping warm. Due to time constraints we can't work her every day but she will be either ridden or lunged about 4 or 5 times a week.
What I want to know is what is the ideal weight for a Sec A? Roughly? I'm thinking we need to get at least 50 kg off her. Would this be about right?
Sorry for the long post
