Lil goes nicely in her KK loose ring snaffle for flat work but as she gets fitter and stronger we're finding that we could do with more brakes for jumping.

She'll trot nice and calmly into a jump but finds the whole thing very exciting and sticks her head up and goes after the jump. We've done lots and lots of stopping after the jump but its not making much difference and I'd rather pop something a little stronger in that she'll listen to rather than spoil her nice soft mouth.

What would people think to a waterford dutch gag? As I think I wonder if it might help with the snatching down on hacks as well as giving us a little extra brakes?

personally I dont like waterford dutch gags, I feel that they can send out mixed messages.
I have a horse simular to yours shes as good as gold in a loose ring snaffle but when jumping she got strong and excited I now ride her in a KK universal for jumping which is like a two ring gag (sort of) with a peanut in the middle she just goes fab in it. Everyone else I've spoken to that has used the same bit loves it

As for using a waterford gag I would introduce one or the other, not together to start, so something like a loose ring waterford or a plain dutch gag ie french link. If she's still very strong then you could try a waterford dutch gag
Hope this makes sense :)

I would also try a universal. They are marginally stronger than a snaffle, but also help to keep them together a bit. Don't like dutch gags, and they will make the problem worse as most horses react by sticking their head in the air, or putting it on their chest.
