My 3 year has turned over the space of 3 days into a bossy bargy wee brat and he seems to be getting worse! when i bought him he was really frightened, underweight and quiet and although i felt sorry for him i got on to him straight away if he did something naughty, did loads of groundwork with him in hand, leading him about making him move forwards/backwards/sideways. Over the past few days he has started trying to push me about the stable and push me about when i take him into the school. Last night he pretended he did not know how to lunge when he was lunged for a wee while the night before!

I have gone back to basics with making him move about but is there anything else that i can do folks? I am breaking him in at the moment and due to the weather he has not really been worked since the weekend (as it have been pouring rain or pitch black when i am trying to get him out) and i am not sure if he is trying it on or is just bored. But you would think he would appreciate the break! He's been coming on really well and i know this is just a minor blip but i need to stop the barging before it gets worse as he is a strong wee bugger :-)

Any advice as always is much appreciated :-)

Sounds good to me. :) Don't give up, just keep rewarding good behaviour with promt praise and correct bad behaviour quickly.

thank you! he has a pretty set routine and gets days off where he can be allowed to be a horse lol.

he's probably just having a bad week lol, will keep going :-)

if he goes like mine has he will always be like this now he knows what he can do, but best thing to do is what you;re doing. horses like that just need strong routine and handling and he should be fine

he has tried it on a couple of time before now, but always backed down and then been good for weeks again. i have only had him for 4 months so hopefully he is feeling bigger and stronger and just trying it on again.

Why do we do the baby horse thing lol?

haha mines not a baby! he's a 10yo horse with the mentality of your 3 yo XD best of luck! i think mines only this bad because he was allowed to do what he wanted for years

Oh man lol would rather he did not get to 10 and still be bargy lol

my mare was like that when i got her at 11, she's 15 now and still has moments - no luck lol

hence why i am trying to see if there is anything i am doing wrong :-)
