I'm on the committee of a local riding club and we're trying to organise a charity fun show to raise some cash for the wonderful ponies and people at http://www.swhp.co.uk/

We're considering doing a few fun showjumping classes e.g. Ride & Run, Horse & Hound, High Score. Any ideas for others? What do people think of the ones we have thought of?

We also wanted a few classes for children with fancy dress being a strong contender. Any others that are popular? We're not sure whether gymkhana games will work in the school we've been offered but are they still popular (outside Pony Club)?

Any other ideas you have from having competed or run a show would be gratefully received :D

I would steal like mad from other riding club web sites. I would make sure that you divide the day into two halves so helpers or Mums with children get to compete, so say put all the pony/children classes on in the morning then lunch break then the horse classes in the afternoon. Rings with a start time also help plan a day out, like not before 1pm.
If you have space a Fun ring with entries at the ringside takes loads of money as all the family can have a go. I always think if you think of the person who has one animal and devise a schedule that allows them to compete in more than one class as diesel is so expensive. Remember it takes just as much organising to run a small show as one with lots on entries, so its really important to start advertising as early as possible and get your helpers lined up. Splitting the day also allows you to get a steward for half a day, there is nothing more sapping as being in the ring all day. It is hard work but it can generate a lot of income.
