I am the fundraising co-ordinator for Hope Pastures horse and donkey sanctuary, Leeds and currently trying to round up auction and raffle prizes for our event on 5th August 2012. I have started approaching local businesses (i.e hairdressers, restaurants etc) with little success so far but keeping trying.

As we're probably more likely to receive support from horsey people, I just wondered if anyone had any ideas for horse businesses that I could approach or any ideas in general if anyone has tried this sort of thing before?

Any help would be gratefully received! :)

In 2009 I helped out obtaining prizes for 2 fundraising events for a local group to raise money for re-surfacing a bridleway. We contacted local businesses mainly by sending them an email/letter, and the feedback was amazing, the prizes consisted of

• voucher for 4 people to attend a day at the Races
• A family pass (2 adults plus 2 children) to the South of England Show in June – you need to think of events coming up in the next couple of months
• A round of golf for 4 people at the xyz Golf Club
• 2 separate tickets to admit up to 5 people for xyz (Agric. College Open Day
• 2 hours use of the indoor school on a date to be arranged by the winner
• Session on the climbing wall for up to 6 people (over the age of 12 years)
• 1 bottle of Sparkling wine provided by local vineyard
• A ½ hour massage Treatment for 1 person
• Vouchers from Spillers, Dengie
• Various clothing items from KP Equestrian, and other local countrywear, riding/saddlers
• Family tickets to family farms, Country Parks
• Olympia Horse Show for December 2012
• Washing vouchers from various Rug wash companies (horse or pets clothing)
• Voucher for a treatment by animal healer
• Signed book, by an animal healer
• A voucher for a 2 for 1 deal on a 3 course meal at local pub
• Family passes on private/preserved railway.
• We even received 2 shot ducks ready for plucking!
and lots of small items, bottles of wine, chocolates etc etc

You have to think of non horsey people too. Try and get the local radio station to spread the word too.

Good luck with the event. I have just looked at the website and thought that I recognised it when it was hot news with the lovely little CRACKER.

... and hopefully you may be able to obtain help from readers from the forum.

Whats the facebook link as this may help bring in some 'useful' interest.

Hi thank you for all of that, that is really helpful.

I have tried non-horsey, in fact it has been mainly non-horsey but will try again with your suggestions.
