I’ve bought a lovely Ssangyong Musso which tows beautifully.
however the hardback area is rather large, so I need some clever ideas on how to carry my saddle and tack where I can get to them easily.
I tried my normal Stubbs carrier but the saddle fell off and slipped to the back which made it tricky to get out.
I’ve put up a couple of bungies with the hope of finding a couple of hooks that I can put my bridle and coat on - not found suitable hooks yet.
What else ?

My OH has a ford ranger with a hard back. I pop my stubbs saddle carrier on a piece of rubber to stop it sliding. My water and wash buckets etc all go in the back. My jacket and anything else that needs to keep clean I hang at the windows in the back of the actual truck.

I have a plastic folding step that I use to put my saddle on and can also use as a mounting block. This is held a the back by bungees as are bucket and water container. Bridle and jacket go on the back seat.

good idea about the step as presumably the saddle can sit into it and not fall off. I’ve got one of those, so I can do a test run !

I made these for the back of our Shogun. Plywood. These are velcroed to the head rest supports to keep them in place but you could fit a wooden beam across the truck. The spacer beam at the bottom is removeable to make them easier to store.Saddle rack 1.jpgSaddle rack 2.jpg

That's brilliant but there's no way I'll reach the saddle that far back - I might be able to do something sideways maybe?

I've put in my plastic folding steps today and bungied it to the side and it seemed to stay nice and stable and the saddle sits nicely on it. Fingers crossed that will work.
