I've got a 22 year old welsh d mare who is out 24/7 most of the year. She's certainly not thin!
She really doesn't like the taste of her joint supplement but as it's working wonders I'm reluctant to change. Just wondering if anyone knows some extra tasty goodies she can have (can be a lititle unhealthy!) To make it yummier.
The dentist isn't due until January but am organising it for sooner rather than later just in case. Mare still has a lovely shiney coat and is okay in herself and certainly feels well when out hacking!

Different horses like different things - and are suspicious of different things. It also depends if it is powder or liquid! You can try to hide it in mashed banana or in grated fruit. I had great success hiding stuff in a vegimite sandwich for one horse. Sometimes if you keep a supplement in the fridge it tastes less because it is cold. (Works for bute too) Mix it with something very peppermint-y. Or licorice flavoured. Mix liquid with unsweetened fruit juice. Or the soaking water from sugar beet - although that is definitely not healthy!

Thanks guys. She's not overly fussy so it's easy in some respect! She's in global herbs move free plus or whatever it's called (been a long day!) And it really works for her (if chasing her round the field is anything to go by!) I've bought some apple squash and she looovvess that. I'll do some calculations and what works out the best sugar/naughtiness wise!

What are you feeding it in at the moment? I find something soaked (like Speedibeet, Fast Fibre, soaked grass nuts) works better than mixing it with chaff type feeds.

She had mint for a while but I think got bored and as its one of her favourites I prefer to keep that for a special occasion (like now when I'm going to have orally sedate her!). She has speedibeet currently and sometimes enjoy it. Depends how sloppy, nothing better than slurping it up!

Feedmark do some treats called Herbalicious which I got free with an order. I found them really useful for soaking into base feeds to cover meds/supps without being stupidly high in sugar.
