I've just come out of hospital after a minor-ish op. I can't ride for a few weeks and I have a youngster who puts on weight very easily so needs to be doing something. Any ideas?
We don't have a horsewalker sadly! I don't want to just lunge day after day as I don't believe in lots of longing for babies. I can't walk too much due to op either.

Could you rope a friend into helping you free school him? You wouldn't have to move as much if there are 2 of you. I would also long line, for short periods only (as much as you feel comfortable doing) Once you are feeling better, you could take for in hand walks.

Also, could you put a grazing muzzle on him? and soak all hay.

Good luck

Then I would give free schooling a go :). I am also not keen on lunging babies, so this will give your youngster the excercise he needs, without all the small circles and strain on his joints. Also it's great play time and bonding at the same time :)
