The rescue I support has a Xmas tradition where we are allocated one of their dogs to send a gift box to.

This year I have been allocated a fawn Bullmastiff girl to send to and would like some ideas as to what to include.

For pets you'd normally get treats and extra's but I was wondering if there are other useful things I can include for a dog in rescue ie wormers, food etc as I'd like to include some treat things for her but also some useful things for the rescue.

All ideas gratefully received.

A frozen marrowbone or a stagbar for the dog and cash.
Spending money on fripparies is less help than funds. The rescue should be able to buy stuff at trade prices.

I send a monthly donation to their bank but they have specifically asked for gift boxes for the dogs at xmas to have some treats. Everyone is allocated a dog to buy for. They have an Amazon wish list aswell so people have been buying things throughout the year for that.

I just wanted a nice balance in my box of useful and 'fripparies'.

I think that's a brilliant idea!
I would try and get things to entertain the dog as being in a kennel would be pretty boring, e.g a kong & stuffing? a treat ball (like horses but for dogs!) A big bone etc. a new collar? home made treats? a blanket? wormers are a good idea, vet vits? maybe ask the rescue what they need :)

Thankyou very much. Some good ideas there.

I know the rescue i volunteer for is always on the look out for collars and coats (its a greyhound/lurcher rescue). Like the idea of boredom breaker type treats too!

A day release ticket:D and a lovely bit big for her that says "I NEED MY FOREVER HOME", a lovely walk and maybe a trip to the groomers, sent back with a big quilt and a huge bone:)

This is a fab idea. I volunteer at a rescue and they'd love this as an idea :) As for stuff to put in, any kind of toys that are safe for the dog to be left alone with, coats/fleeces for winter, blankets, collars (maybe personalised? but if its a mastiff like you said then maybe not :p ), treats (although make sure the dog doesn't have special dietary requirements first) and more toys :D The puzzle type toys and kongs would work well too :)

Aw i don't think i could do that-would be going and picking dog up- i have to keep away from rescues and only give donations from a far if i was to individualise i wouldn't be able to leave dog.
I like the day release idea- i would buy all for the dog tho and give extra donation for the kennel- plenty of good time consuming chews or Kong with stuffing or a treat ball type thing. Make Christmas a happier time for dog- a big take me home sign too

I have never heard of a programme that sends rescue dogs Christmas boxes, but I think it's a fabulous idea. Might have a think about sending one to a dog at the local Dog's Trust. So, here are my ideas:

Dog milk (got Brochan a couple of cartons a few days ago and he LOVES it). I got it in Asda and costs 69p per carton. Click for more info about it. I would also recommend a Babble Ball (mine is currently on his second one, but it is his favourite toy :)). Cans/bags/trays of good quality food. A comfy mattress or bed. A gift voucher for a pet shop. Grooming mitts, a food/water bowl stand, a couple of steaks. I think the other suggestions have been great too (especially the day release pass, puzzle toys, and more practical things like ear drops, wormers, etc).

I'm sure you will make-up a fantastic box. :)

I think its a great idea too :D

If its a rescue that uses kennel spaces in private kennels you could offer to pay the fee... or bags of good quality food, blankets (there are some great lovely warm ones you can get from the army surplus that are fabulous). Toys without squeakers or kongs :D As others have said leads collars coats or those hi viz dog collars are great.

HaHa luckily I live too far away to visit the dogs so everything is done at a distance. I have three dogs from them so have done my bit :D

Thankyou all for your ideas, am looking forward to getting the doggie hamper ready. x
