Hi everyone
smile.gif

I need some ideas for things to do in a handy pony/horse class. We are running three of these over 2010 and so far have come up with.

*posting a letter
*getting clothes off a washing line
*jumping a small jump
*Possibly jousting?
*Mounting wrong side

We are trying to make all three classes different but I really need some more ideas........

Thanks in advance and mahoooosive slice of double chocolate fudge cake for all ideas!

waiting in a box made of poles for 15 seconds
rein back between two poles, 4 strides
no to the jousting lol recipe for trouble
walking over large piece of carpet
walking under something low
carrying a rubber chicken or tennis ball from one bucket to another
getting a cup of water carrying it and emptying into something without spilling

oooh the possibilities are endless. have a look at le trec you may get some further ideas. Wish you were my end of the country I LOVE HANDY PONY!!! (yes ok ok I'm 40 this year....)

When I did these years ago we had some of the following things:

stepping over a dead body (stuffed boilersuit type thing)
a narrow gap to go through (poles or stawbales)
a low branches type thing
something where you had to pick up an item from a barrel(cup and saucer I think) carry it and put it down on a barrel
A tin can on a washing line that had to be slid from end to end - that was well spooky
Walk over some tarpaulin/plastic sheeting
Open and close a gate
A jump or a few jumps - normally something a bit unusual and extra spooky but not big, often a single barrel or haybale so it was a skinny or one with "roadworks" as fillers, or a plastic sheet underneath or flappy things on the wings.

Our instructor was evil with the things she used to devise for our summer competitions.

Might be worth looking at the things they do in trec for ideas.

Thanks for all the ideas!

I also run a Le Trec comp in the summer so am trying not to duplicate anything from there if I can.

My daughter did one a few years ago where they had to ride through a 'channel' of 2 ropes hung with bits of flapping plastic - really sorted the men out from the boys!!

I did one a couple of years ago for the first time (aged 40!) and we had to post a letter, unpeg washing, open and close a gate, pick up a plastic bag full of litter and place it on a table, get off, pick out pony's foot ( I suppose if you were evil, you could make it the hind foot), mount on the wrong side, pop over a small jump.

We organised a few recently and had sweeping shavings on a tarpaulin, from one end to the other, while holding pony, pick up a stone and put it in a specified place, mount from a mounting block (amazing how many ponies will not stand to do this!) Carry a bean bag on your hat from one place to another. Most of the mounted games stuff can be adapted we find

Last handy pony we did we had some really big pants and a washing line to hang them on. If its warm weather apple bobbing.
Good luck!
