Hi all,

I am just about to purchase some red cell and on the instructions it tells you not to let it freeze.... we have a livery yard where everyone has their own individual tack room with no electrical supply other than the joint tea room.

How do i stop this and other liquids from freezing over winter... any ideas?

I have brought a family picnic cooler this year. have never tried it before but i am told it will stop watever is in it frezzing. so we will see if it works. other wise maybe try to insulate something with spare rugs?

I got mine from amazon i think. But loads of places do them. :-) someone also told me when it gets constantly freezing outside if you mix it up with warm water its also less likely to freeze but again i have never tried it myself yet!

We have a cold box bought from Argos which we do the s/beet in and it never freezes. I now have 2 of them the other one has stuff in that needs keeping above freezing and just to be sure of this I shall wrap it in straw if the temperature gets very cold.

I've used Redcell for years and never had it freeze, even when my sugar beet does. I keep it in a feedbin with my mix etc. Don't let that stop you on your quest though, other liquid supplements definitely freeze - my old YO lost a massive bottle of NAF superflex a couple of years ago :(

An insulated box is probably the best way to go if you have no electricity. On very cold nights you could wrap one of those chemical heating pads around it. Or - the most reliable - just keep the big bottle at home and take a day's supply with you in a container everyday.

As said above, insulated box, coolbox is best with a bit of polystyrene in if required.

If weather v v cold, I use my small coolbox to transport non-freezing stuff to & from the yard & it lives in the hallway at home in between. No frozen carrots etc either :)

Keep it at home and bring with you when you need to feed it.

Depending on what is in the red cell - products high in salt or sugar generally don't freeze at normal freezing temperatures

I'm so glad I live in New Zealand - where I am it never snows and only gets frosty overnight!

I'd stick it in a dustbin that's been insulated with bubble wrap or an old rug and that should stop it from freezing.
