My horse fell ill and to our dismay, passed away the next morning. I'm not going to go into details but we haven't yet received her vet bill and I just want a rough idea of what it could be to put my mind at rest.

We found her in the early stages of her reaction. The vet was called out in normal hours and spent about 5 hours with her.
They gave her a few doses of steroids (3-4) and another injection that cleared her swelling..
They left her until the next morning when they were supposed to come back to give her another dose of medication, but she sadly died before they arrived.

They have ideas of what was wrong but haven't pin pointed it yet, as they had apparently never seen a reaction as severe as hers. Everything possible was done for her, she was looking like she was recovering but it just went downhill :(

Jesus!

I have no real idea... Charges vary so much, but I couldn't read and run... I wanted to say I'm so sorry for your loss xx

Christ, really sorry to hear this.

As bad it sounds, bill will depend on whether you're insured or not. Last callout I had (uninsured, emergency, out of hours, 3 injections and around 3hrs of vet time) cost me £300. I'd be prepared for £500-£1000, any less is a bonus... can't imagine the bill coming through for a few weeks at least, though.

She wasn't euthanised, her death was something to do with her heart not recovering from her reaction

Thankyou, she left us too quickly :(
