Hi everyone,

I need some help at home and wondered if you could help me.
I would like someone to come along and muck out 3 stables (shavings on rubber), fill waters in field, wash out buckets, clean up generally Monday to Friday.

I anticipate about and hour to an hour and a half a day. I do it easily in that time and I change rugs and turn out (admitted not very far!). Is this just not worth someone's time??

Would someone expect to do more with the horses?
Would I need someone to be qualified especially if I decide I want/need help with horses.
What sort of money would I expect to pay per week? No weekend work involved. I would pay more to have someone really nice and reliable.
Where and how would I find someone??? (million dollar question)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cate xx

I know people who do this, and do, let's say 3 yards of a similar nature in the mornings and maybe one in the afternoon. You really need to find someone by recommendation, as they can sometimes take short cuts when left to their own devices

.

Local tack shop/ feed merchant should know someone, but try and get a reference!

ah that makes sense, never thought of it like that. I would be home so hopefully they'd get on with it properly

I will definitely be getting a reference then! thank you.

My old riding instructor used to do this to supplement the income she got from teaching. Used to do her own horses. morning stables for others, teach, then afternoon stables, teach some more, do her own horses then sometimes do more lessons!

I do something along the lines of that for my bosses horses. I bring in/turn out, feed, hay, muckout, poopick, do waters, sweep, change rugs etc, about 2 hours a day, I get £7.50 an hour, luckily for me her stables are on the way to my stables so its not much of a detour

Where abouts are you based? You never know, someone on here might be able to help!

Do you have spare stabling at the yard? Perhaps you could offer free livery in return for help which might make someone more reliable if they have their own horse(s) there.

Hi, I'm in the Headcorn/Marden area in kent, near Tonbridge. I have one spare stable but I'm after another horse so that might not be an option for long. Very good idea's though. Thanks everyone so far. xx

is there a reason why your not doing them yourself as you are at home anyway? im not being funny just curious, with you saying your going to be looking at buying another horse yet needing help with the ones you have got

Perhaps Caty works? Or perhaps she doesn't enjoy mucking out and doing the menial chores?

Caty; I would put an advert in the local tack shop or the local paper and see what sort of people apply for the job. If you get a few people then you can choose the one who suits you best.
