Ideas anyone........I am looking for a nice gift for the two girls who have been looking after Vardi whilst he has been at my Trainers yard for the last 6 months (especially since a lot of his recovery from illness has been down to their dedication).

I have seen some lovely Nappa leather bracelets with a Snaffle clasp on this site;

What do you think or do you think that they would prefer vouchers for the local tack shop to the value of 50 bucks?

My thought is that something personal would be nice.....any other ideas for something suitable?????

Why not get them vouchers for a swish restaurant or a health club day or something similar that as grooms they are unlikely to be able to afford but would very much appreciate using on their day off?

Do they have their own horses? As a groom myself I know I would love something nice for my horse, maybe one of those glitzy browbands (if they're into them), a lovely new headcollar, decent riding gloves? Chocolate is always appreciated! Second Divasmum although do it discreetly so they don't feel like charity too much (they will appreciate it though). Or maybe take them out to lunch one day as a treat?

When I worked as a groom in my gap year, at christmas some of the clients used to get us hampers stuffed with goodies - that always went down well - a nice bottle of something, some chocs and biscuits etc, luxuries we couldn't normally afford. Actual cash was always good too, although it does seem a bit inpersonal. If they have their own horses something like a smart leather headcollar or perhaps new gloves or something for them?

Knowing how poorly paid a lot of grooms are I think they would appreciate a thank you card with real money in it!

Have to agree with this. Days out are personnel choice and buying bracelets ect is the same. They normally don't get paid much and I'm sure they would appreciate the real money in their hand gift.

I tend to choose something non-horsey for the grooms ... I get the feeling that they'd appreciate something which is not work-related more than something horsey (I know horses are a passion, but they're also their job at the same time!)

I normally buy them clothes (something nice, a lovely sweater or something like that) -- in one instance I wanted to buy a thank-you gift for a groom and his wife had just had a baby, so I bought some lovely toys for the newborn (I knew he was getting a really low wage and his wife wasn't working, and I figured that they probably wouldn't be able to afford or willing to buy expensive-ish toys for the baby).

I'd get a pamper day. It wouldn't normally be something that they'd do and nobody could be unhappy with it. With something like the bracelet you run the risk of them not liking it, but not being able to do anything with it. Maybe you could arrange with their boss for them to have some time off at the same time so they can go together?

I don't like horsey jewellery/ornaments etc but a lot of people have given me things like that just because I like horses and they've just sat around gathering dust. The best was this lovely white and gold china statue of a rearing horse that I was given by an auntie when I was about 15! What's a 15 year old supposed to do with one of those!

I'm not a groom but over the years I've received a few horse jewelery items - and tbh I've not liked one of them.

Either a quality item for their horse or some pampering would be my suggestion.

Thinking practically do they need new yard boots/coats etc for winter, it's this time of year when grooms suddenly realise their boots aren't so waterproof and they have no spare cash.

I'm sure they will appreciate whatever you choose!

When I wasa groom, my boss treated me to a lovely lunch at a smart eatery.

I really appreciated this, as thought had been out into it. The cash would have been nie, but appreciated the thought of a lovely lunch much more.

What ever you decide, I am sure they wont be expecting it and will be most gratefull.

How about a 'winter survival kit' - decent gloves, hat, scarf, hand warmers, hand cream, bubble bath, socks, sloe gin.....
