hi, one of our horses is confusing us a little at the moment, and before you ask the vet has been called & is coming out this afternoon. But was hoping you guys may have a few ideas incase the vet also gets stumped.
She gone lame/stiff in all 4 legs, but is much more noticeable behind. Shes only 4 so unlikely to be anything like arthritis, etc, altho she is overweight so could possibly be joint related. Again something that is being worked on but with the lameness its very hard now. The lameness came on quite rapidly, but its more her as a whole thats changed. Reluctance to play in the field, very 'down in the dumps', not grazing/stuffing her face like normal, so not her usual self as a whole.
My initial thoughts was towards lami, but she has no heat in her feet, no stance, no raised pulses. She does have windgall type swellings on her hind legs with, scabby skin on the outsides of her legs, but nothing on the insides. These scabs are at various stages of healing, so maybe nothing. As a whole she is sore and very unhappy.
Do any of you have any ideas?
Thankyou in advance!

Not sure about horses but humans get infectous arthritis which comes on very suddenly....

Good luck with the vet :)

I wonder if she has perhaps gone hooning round the field and tipped herself up or something? It's pretty easy for them to put their back or pelvis out doing this, would be pretty painful and tight in her muscles too which would lead to her being down in the dumps. Sure your vet will have a good idea and get her back on the right track!

I would say back as well. It will affect her movement and stretching her neck down to eat will pull on the spine making her reluctant to grazr if in pain. Hope the vet can spot something, you always feel better when they can put a name/condition to something, at least that way you can treat it.:o
