Despite several washes using boiling water, fairy liquid and equimins brilliant white shampoo my boys very long "white" tail is still a grubby grey colour at the bottom.

Can anyone suggest any products that might help get it white again - it seems to have gotten discoloured with all the mud we had over winter (I tried using a tail bag but he kept somehow managing to take them off in the field).

Here is a pic of it at last weekends comp - it had been washed 3 times at this point and still looked filthy - this is despite me scrubbing until the water ran clean!

Any suggestions welcome.

I have heard people mention using soap flakes if you can find them around, and good old fashioned washing powder! If that were to work, you could then UAE the blue rinse you can buy for a final brightening?

Glo-white, find it in the detergent department in larger supermarkets. It's in the same section as underwear whitener etc. Probs the same thing as unerwear whitener actually....

My friend used to use it on her old highland's tail. She made sure not to use it directly on her skin as it is quite a strong formula, but will be fine to use on hair below the dock :) Works a treat, her tail really was spotless afterwards!

Soak it well in stain remover (horse kind)

Wash several times in fairy liquid

Then use a conditioner.

Use one of the blue rinse products for the final rinse.

If that doesn't work then large amounts of white chalk :D

Thanks so much for all the suggestions - will be heading to the supermarket tomorrow to see which of the above recommendations I can find!!

I strongly recommend Persil Acti Lift gel (or similar), damp end of tail with warm water, apply gel, rub it in and leave for a few minutes, then get boiling water and dip the tail in and swill it around, then wash again with normal shampoo and apply tail conditioner to stop the mud sticking to it. Be careful that the end of the tail doesn't touch the horse's legs until it has cooled down.

Get the stuff that you wash white clothes in, heard good things about daz!

Dissolve abit of power into water and soak tail in it, but please keep WELL away from the skin!

Up the concentration of power if it doesn't work x
