Found this walking nightmare on my gelding whilst grooming today. He was a bugger to catch and squish- did NOT want to give up. Research leads me to believe it’s a Ked/forest fly- the sort that likes burrowing in gelding’s bits, which would fit as yesterday at a ride the poor lad totally lost his mind, kicking out with his back leg like he was being bitten.
Anyone any idea if I’m right? If so, how do you treat? ?

Deer keds do this.
Hefty applications of deosect can remove. Also speak to vet about any other applications you can use.
In early winter covering horses rear end in a rug for 10 mins makes the keds slow down, then lift, pick and squash (hard buggers to splat tho)

Vile things!
