Idiot question: What is hot clothing?

I do it with vinegar usually but last year I used a tiny bit of fairy liquid and it brought the grease off brilliantly!

We hot rag all the clipped horses at work and every hunter gets a good hot rag before and after hunting.
Most of the hunters love having their faces hot ragged on cold evenings after hunting.
