Hi. Got a comp at the weekend and my trailer lights have stopped working on one side. Incase I cant get it fixed on time i was wondering if i could use a lightboard. What size would i need. Anything id need to look out for? Thanks

First ,clean the trailer plug with a wire brush , check the bulbs , find an auto electrician . I could sort this out in an hour!Worst way a cheap E bay lighting board will get you out of trouble. Get any old board , Its just plug and play.

I will get cleaning, thanks. Its booked in for fixing on Friday. How likely is it that it can be fixed without needing to order parts. I have no knowledge about trailer electrics and am going to worry about it all week:-) If I buy one just in case how wide does it need to be and how long a lead?

Measure the width of your trailer & that will give you an idea as to which size of trailer board to buy. You just attach it to the rear of your trailer & plug it into your socket on the rear of your car. You may need to use some cable clips on the cable to clip it under the floor of the trailer so it's not dangling & scraping along the road.

As for wire brushing the plug, you can do that but don't wire brush the socket on your car! Just spray the socket with WD40. An auto electrician will be able to fix your electrics but depending on the age of your trailer it may be alot cheaper to just use a trailer board. Good Luck.

Mike, roughly where are you?

Good auto electricians are rare beasts you know.

Shouldn't have said that, you'll be charging £40/hour :)

Is everything not working on one side ? Have you another Vehicle that you can just plug it on to ,this will tell you if its the vehicle or the trailer. Get some electrical contact cleaner and spray socket and plug! WD 40 is not great for electrics that are not working!
