ID's what are the best lines for Showjumping please

I know the warmblood lines as my other horses have all been warmbloods but after riding a great ID X TB I would love to own one so I am now looking for a youngster. Can anyone tell me what lines to look for in temperment showjumping ability please
 
well i brought a clover brigade youngster 3 years ago (didn;t know his line til i'd chosen him though!)and he has a humungeous jump and loves to jump partlt the reason i chose him was because he really 'attacked' the jump when loose jumped as a 4yo, think the clover line is generally pretty good- not that i'm biased!!
also king of diamonds lines v good has lots of eventing and sj offspring as well.
 
Hi - try posting on the Irish Draught Horse Society of GB (idhsgb.co.uk) website - they are a very helpful bunch of people with a wealth of knowledge of ID performance.
 
I have a youngster that is a Colin Diamond granddaughter (King of Diamonds). Boy she can jump!
There are alot of excellent jumpers that have "The King" in their lines so don't think you could go far wrong if he was strongly in the bloodlines.

King of Diamonds, Clover Hill, Cavalier and Cruising are probably the most common and the best ISH/ID lines. I have a mare who is out of a Seacrest mare (same sire as Cruising) and she has a fab jump but is also quirky as many of that line are. My other mare has King of Diamonds as her great grand sire on both her sire and dam side and she has a scopey jump with very good technique and is much more level headed and not as quirky.
 
I have a Western Promise mare, not so well known as some of the big names but his offspring include Mr Springfield and Hannigan. Her breeder has 2 other full sisters to her and they all have a fanastic trainable nature, level headed, HUGE jump and a real will to win!
 
Pidge has King of Diamonds as his great grandsire and he loves his jumping. IMO don't think you can go wrong with his bloodlines.

My daughter's Irish Sports Horse has King of Diamonds bloodlines, though a bit diluted through the generations. However she jumps like a stag. His progeny are known for their jumping ability.

She will be for sale in a couple of months due to uni (the horse not the daughter). Probably a bit old for you though as she is rising 8.

I have a 5 yo, IDx by Snowford Mount Western, (King of Diamond lines)bought her as a foal, have brought her up and started her myself, first time I have started a horse myself.she is 15 .2, jumps for England, temperament to die for, is an absolute babe .hopefully she will be on the circuit this year.

She wanders in here from time to time though when the Irish Draughts are behaving and give her a spare 5 minutes!!

The vast majority of Irish Draughts can jump reasonably well. A LOT of good jumpers with ID breeding have King of Diamonds SOMEWHERE in their pedigree - not surprising really as more than 80% of the Irish mare herd has either or all of the 'big 3' - King of Diamonds, Clover Hill, & Pride of Shaunlara - in their pedigrees. But there are other ID stallions WITHOUT these bloodlines who are also good jumpers. Rebelara and Touch of the Blues are two who immediately spring to mind.

But you need to look past the pedigree and look at the individual's conformation. Some IDs are a bit downhill in front - I have a mare by Flagmount Diamond (by KoD) who CAN jump but is a bit downhill in front and it would always limit her ability to leave the ground, although she has an excellent back end and hind leg - two other things you really have to look at. Some are a bit long in the cannon bone - always a bad thing in a jumper.

MOST IDs have excellent temperaments and good trainability but you do get the odd one that's downright idle - or stubborn (some KoD's were definitely that!) Touch of the Blues seems to throw stock with excellent temperaments - my stallion is by him - and although HE wouldn't have made a serious showjumper (a bit TOO big!) he does have a HELL of a jump - and a stunning temperament and throws foals with both.

Ben Purple threw a few good jumpers too - and I currently have a rather nice 7 year old RID here for sale who is line-bred to Ben Purple. He's still green but attacks a fence and looks like he'd clear the moon given half a chance (he is the 'sporty-type' of ID - not a heavy chap.) Or is you were after a baby, I've hot a couple of nice 3 year olds, out of TB and ISH mares, not yet broken in - but with the conformation and temperament to do the job.

Ah Now I know why they were asking where are you. You are evidently really in to your ID's. I see you have a stallion and have now googled you. When the weather picks up may be giving you a call. Thanks for the info
