....and steps forwards as soon as they've touched it, how much damage would you expect there to be?

Small dent, football sized dent....what about scratches? Can a horse's hairy hock actually cause a foot long horizontal scratch on a wing?

Depends on the car I suppose. Something light and it might at a push but I seriously doubt it. Bob has itched himself all along 1 side of mine (numpty!!!) and there wasn't a mark on it.

I wouldn't have thought in your case there would be anything, certainly not to that extent.

I had this happen to me about 15 years ago. My mare I had at the time reversed into a car as far as I was concerned, she barely touched it. The car owners claimed that my mare was responsible for a big indentation on their bonnet that was about 6 inches long and fairly deep. Either their car was very bendy or they were trying to pin other damage on me as no way did my horse do that - she hardly caught the bumper with her tail and would have to have sat down on the bonnet to do that much damage. End result was my public liability insurance coughed up for the damage.

She didn't seem to do much, car driver was going to drive away until I stupidly, in shock at seeing it, said "Did P do that dent?"

There's a football sized dent and a horizontal scratch. I don't mind paying for the dent to be pulled out, but cannot see how she couldn't possibly have scratched it. She didn't kick out at it, she just walked into the car.

Insurers have suggested I pay as they expect it to be under the excess. Problem is, if she goes for the respray of the scratch it will be more than £150.

Hock would not cause a scratch - nothing sharp on it. Now when Cairo sat on a car, that was a little different - he was very young at the time.

I was told that I did over £1,000 worth of damage to a car years ago - I hit it with my body when coming off the bike and couldn't work out how it had happened.

Found out that the f**kers wife had reverse it into something and they were trying to stitch me up - thanks to his dim secretary when I called to confirm details, who said "oh you are the other one".

Luckily at the time, Daddy did Norwich Union's staff newspaper and knew top people who had a chat with claims and it was rejected.

I doubt she would have done any of that at all!!!

I took Milly out of the field today to ride her and while I was closing the gate she reversed into my car and then promptly started rubbing herself on it!!

Only marks on the car are what I have done and nothing from the lard arse Milly!

I wouldn't have thought too much. I had the same thing happen to a friends car a few years ago and that left just a small dent. You wouldn't notice it unless you went looking for one.

How close was the car to your horse out of interest. Cars can get so close to my horse's bottom at times, really irritates me!

no way would her hock scratch it, any more than your elbow would... nothing sharp on it. sounds as if they're trying to stitch you up.
although i'd be over the moon that my horse wasn't hurt, so i guess that's the most important thing...

Ive had a pony sit on a car before (reared up when rider was getting onboard), did suprisingly little damage to the 4x4. i think it was about £100 worth.

My loan horse a few years ago walked back into a parked car at a show, lept forward and then put in an almighty kick - all he did was smash the headlight! So a tiny knock with a hock is unlikely to cause a scratch. Fortunately for me said car was owned by BF of the girl I was with at the show and he laughed it off!

Rosie reversed at speed out hunting and lightly sat on the bonnet of a parked Metro (with the owner still in it -eek!!) The only damage was my embarrassment!

At the same meet she chested a Police Range Rovers' front wing, they were parked up on the Downs keeping an eye on the proceedings!

That was our first foray into hunting, and we didn't go again until YEARS later!!!!

Having said that, I once had a Suzuki Wagon-R that was literally made out of a sardine tin.

If I leant against any part of it, I caused a dent! Cleaning the windscreen or roof was a no-no unless you put scaffolding up around it first!!

I had a horse walk backwards into my car, and although he hardly touched it I ended up with a massive dent in my wing. It couldn't be repaired, so needed a new wing, which the rider paid for as it was her fault. There weren't any scratches though.

She commented just after that she'd always assumed he'd stop before making contact, so he must have done something similar in the past.

I can't see she could scratch it and I would have thought that a football sized dent was extremely unlikely unless she reversed into it at speed. Do you have BHS membership? You could try ringing their legal section for advice
