for a horse that they share, who does it belong to?

The reason I ask is that one of the girls who shared my horse has just asked for her stuff back including a saddle cloth with the horses name on that she paid for......

It isn't a problem, but I was a little surprised!

I share (but only very recently) and if I bought something it would be for the horse, and so therefore stay with the horse, unless it was something V expensive like a saddle!

It would belong to the horse as you both share it but when the sharer goes their own way then it would be theres to keep if they chose to do so, as they bought it.
IMO anyways.

I would say it belonged to the person who bought it. Although asking for a embroidered saddle cloth back is a bit strange. Unless she is sharing a new horse with the same name as yours.

you see this is what I always thought......

As I said..... it isn't a problem just a little surprised. good job she never bought her any feed!!!!!!

Well asking for a numnah with horses name on seems a little weird, but yes, if I bought something for a horse I shared then I would want it back afterwards! Afterall, most horsey equipment is useful for all sorts of horses.

I would say it belongs to her and she let you borrow it (if you used it too) Bit odd though

Seems to be just us that think this way though!!!

I used to share a pony with my friend (who actually owned the pony) and I gave everything I had bought for the pony to my friend when I decided to buy my own horse. I had only ever bought small things like browbands, fly sprays, brushes, bags of food etc but since they were all for the horse in question I would have felt mean spirited taking them away.

LOL...... shame I washed it last night! but as my good old mum said....." you can go and get another one"...... which is what I may well do!

I guess it would also depend on if the sharer was replacing something. For example if they broke a pair of reins then got a new pair then i would say they belonged to the owner. But extra's like saddlecloths or a rug they bought should remain theirs.Could you offer her something for the saddlecloth?.Why would she want to keep a saddlecloth that has your horses name on it??.

If it was me I'd want my gear back regardless, but I have had sharer buy all sorts for my horse as present and leave it with him! You should offer to pay a little towards maybe if you want to keep stuff?

When I shared, if I bought anything and didn't ask for half the money I took it back but if we'd bought it together it stayed. The slight difference here was that we were both sharing the horse, neither of us owned it; I took (or perhaps was given) responsiblity for paying for everything but would then 'bill' my sharer at the end of each month.

I would take anything I bought with me, but would probably offer the owner anything they really wanted to keep. Maybe she wants to keep the saddle cloth as a souvenir?

When I shared a horse I bought loads of things for him as his owner didn't even have a basic first aid kit and her boots/numnahs etc were falling to bits. I also bought a leather girth for him as the one she had rubbed him. I have to say I took it all back when I bought Spring and stopped sharing. As a sharer I bought extra feed too and paid half his shoes and towards his livery so to be honest I think she did pretty well out of me!! If it was a personlised thing then I would probably leave it with the horse especially if I had a good relationship with the owner of the horse, but I was left feeling a bit miffed when it came to the end of my share so I have to say I didn't leave anything that I bought for him!

Think of it the other way round, how would you feel if she took items that you had bought when she left, afterall you were both sharing him...

BTW it isn't that hard to unpick a name from a saddlecloth.

As I said it wasn't really an issue, I was a bit surprised due to the way I looked at it (explained above) but it is nice to get a balanced view - I can see all points. Due to the excessive amounts of texts and the fact that I won't be available at the weekend I have dropped everything up to her this evening. We have parted on reasonable terms..... absolutely no reason not to.

Job done.

I quite liked the concept, so i may get the duo one each for christmas!!

Well unless it was to replace something she'd broken, or she had expressly said otherwise, I would expect it to still belong to the person who'd bought it - personalised or otherwise.

Glad you parted company on reasonable terms. I have to say I am surprised that you were surprised that she asked for her stuff back LOL!!

I parted company with the girl I loaned my horse from and I bought him loads of stuff. I was quite willing for her to keep it but it all she started being nasty so I took it back. She then had the cheek to tell everyone I stole it!! Sometimes it isn't always the loaner that is the tricky one!!

i have bought things for Frankie, and if i was to stop riding him i would take all the stuff with me. i haven't got the kind of money that i can just give things away! and all the stuff i buy can be used for other horses as well, such as a pessoa and headcollars etc xx

belongs to the person that bought it, afterall a lot of horsey stuff can be used on other horses. Unless it was bought as a present then the stuff she bought as loanee is hers to do what she wants with.
