If a Thorowgood is slightly too forward cut on the shoulders- Wintec

Ponies saddle has been checked over by another saddler- this one pointed out its a little restrictive on his shoulder. She said its ok for flat work but wouldnt recommend jumping in it.
So the plan is to use it for now with a half pad so not to put any bulk under the flaps and save for a good saddle.
In the meantime ive seen a Wintec advertised, its fairly local in that i could pick it up and return if its no better but far enough not to want to do it if its unlikely to be an improvement if that makes sense!
Does anyone know if a wintec is going to give his shoulder a little more room?
I still plan on getting a new one as and when but no way i can afford at the moment so this would just be a tide us over option.

You probably didnt get an answer because you are the one that knows your horse, no one else is going to know if a saddle will suit your horse or not, epecially with no photos.

Why not try a VSD model or the cob model? Saddles are often too forward cut for my high withered TB (she HATES anything on her shoulders and WILL buck you off) so I have to look for saddles that are a bit more restrained in the flap design. I have a Thorowgood Cob saddle for her as the flaps aren't cut too far forward. I'm pretty sure Thorowgood does a VSD saddle as well.

Wintec does do a VSD model as well BUT if your horse fits a Thorowgood, chances are, it won't fit a Wintec as the older styles have a more curved shape tree. I can't use the older models of Wintecs on my TB as they rock like a rocking horse on her back! I've not seen the latest models of Wintecs (I think they were redesigned last year??) but apparently, they have made the trees a bit less curved.

I had lots of replies just all i want to know is which is more forward cut I dont really think it needs photo's Im not asking for advice on how the current saddle fits- I know the answer to that. Im also not asking if a wintec will fit. Its just a general question.
Some brands are more forward cut and i wondered if Wintec was one.

Thanks sidesaddlegirl- Im probably going to get a Native sadddle company saddle fitted as and when i can afford one- just wondered if this wintec would possibly tide us over til then. A VSD would probably be the answer (or we redirect and turn pony into a dressage diva instead of a jumper!)

I think it depends on the model, my GP 2000 is very forward cut and covers 1/4 of my boys (admittedly) large shoulders.

I will find out what it is. Ive seen a photo and its all leather look. The Wintecs ive seen in the shops have suede look knees? I will research!

My boy has big shoulders and is deceptively wide, I ride him in a dressage saddle most of the time, but I also have a wide wintec with a white gullet, this is quite straight cut at the saddle flaps, although his old wintec 500 wasn't so no longer fits him. The best thing to do would be to try it on first.

I doubt it will fit, my girl will fit a thorogood fairly well, but a wintec is a disaster in every way on her.

I'm a little surprised at your saddler suggesting that a saddle is too tight to jump but is fine to do flatwork. Also just checking did they see it with the half pad on? Only because you can risk making the saddle tighter behind the shoulder if the saddle is a good fit without it.

Well what she actually said was its slightly tight on his shoulders which will be restrictive when jumping but wouldnt be anywhere near enough to cause the problems we'd been having (napping hence getting it checked) She wouldnt sell it to me but as we already own would advise its not going to cause problems but a replacement would be high on her to do list if it was hers.
The option was to turn the pony away for 6 months as i literally have no money :-( Currently selling rugs to fund the dentist due in September things are that bad!
