I have a gypsie cob, bought 3 years ago. On having him vetted for purchase he was 4 1/2 maximum. His passport had him at 7! And one of the 1st January birth dates. I have the vetting papers in case I need to prove this. I'm thinking of changing his passport to a traditional gypsy cob one, can I change his age? Can age be changed on his current passport?

This happened to me, bought a pony, was told it was 13. Passport said 15.

The owners sent the passport back, as they hadnt noticed the mistake;)

It came back with a sticker over the orignal age stating age unknown.

So, from my experience, I would say no.

Other may have had different experiences

As said above they will change it to agree unknown.

We were going to have a passport changed for one of our ponies, he was 13 but passport said 31! We decided to leave it how it was as we felt it was a believable enough age difference for people to realise his real age.

thing is teeth vary

we had a pony that was registered and papered and in the year she was 15, 2 dentists and a vet looked at her teeth. they declared her any where between 7-9 but no older. so all 3 were wrong and by a long way

i agree they vary, but I thought it was more accurate at a younger age. he still had baby teeth to come out at the time

Sadly I was told by my vet no, when I first had my boy brought him as a 5yo without a PP and when I had his PP done he could only put him older as I had no proof of his age and he told me there was something legal about it also x

We bought back a pony to retire who we had sold years before. We knew his real age as we knew his full history but he had been passported since he left us. The passport said he was 19, he was 34! My mum phoned up the PIA and explained the situation and their re esponse was "oh yes you can change anything you like"! I think that's when I lost all faith in the passporting system
