I dragged my OH and son at midnight up to a local rural viewpoint, only to find so many other people and cars there that there was nowhere to park, and we had to reverse, in the pitch dark, a mile back down a narrow country road (nowhere to turn round, either).
We turned round and pulled in, eventually, and peered at the sky. I must say, it was so clear that we saw more stars than we'd seen for years, just glorious. But not many shooting ones, so we came home.
I went into my garden at about 3.30 and there were a few more, but nothing really spectacular, as I had been led to believe. Lovely, though, all the same
