My little TB is on in hand excercise and grazing only - he has shoe issues but lets not get into that.... but he is a bloody nightmare..... he was stood on his hind legs waving his hooves at me again tonight so I brougt him back in...... now if he was a good boy I would stand at the end of his 3 leadropes for 2 hours in a morn and 2 hours at night.... but nope not him....I just wish i could say "numpty now listen if your good you can graze on the lush green grass in the sun, wind and rain... but if you keep draggin me all over and threaten to kick my head in then tough you will get the walk of death and get the min of ten mins to keep you ticking over"

I feel your pain! My TB had to have in hand exercise after doing hind suspensory - starting at 10 mins building up to 30 mins walking ... that was the theory anyway! Barely got beyond the 10 min part of our exercise plan before he became such a pain in the arse, was impossible to do anything with him without risking life and limb .... for the both of us

Spoke to my vet, got him on a calmer. Equistro Equalizer did the trick and we got through it relatively unscathed. I would never usually use a calmer, but sometimes needs must

Have you tried long reining him?

Worked a treat with my cob, he got uncontrollable on lead rein. But a good walk under control on his long lines meant a nice calm graze after!

Worth a try. It's very easy to keep control when long reining imo

Just to add, the whole 'tacking up' routine getting him ready to go for his long reining exercise seemed to do wonders for his mental health. I think he felt like he had a job again rather than standing in a stable x

IME in hand grazing is never a real issue, its about fiiive minutes into the in hand exercise....
And yes grazing in a field 'whoopee' haha x

Its the munch munch munch - launch thats getting me. We did well with a bridle and headcollar and a lead rope and a lungeline, hard hat, whip and glooves... we still tried to be a pratt - but he got 40 mins out.... for me its the first 5 mins and the walk in thats the worst

I feel you pain I've been there fortunately mine isnt a rearer , he is a spin round shove you out the way and do a runner type !
I always use a bridle for situations like this , have you tried that see if it keeps him on the ground ?
