A bar steward .. what would you do?

Basically I spent 40 minutes today watching X (horse) chase Sol round the field .. every time I got within 10 feet of them they'd sod off up the field.

Finally caught Sol and X's owner was stood on the yard and she asked what was wrong .. I responded with ''Your horse is a bar steward'' and then explained why I was annoyed

What would you have done in this situation?

eta - I've been told off by my YO this evening for it as X's owner complained about me....

Now I think it quite funny as its a HUGE over reaction I feel but it would be interesting to here what you think ....

lol TBH I'd laugh in your face :L a bar steward?! That's certainly an original one!

I can't say what I really said as it ends up asterixed out
Hang on let me try ... Bastard

eta - Oh it works haha

my horses have been called a lot worse! i just laugh, some people are just too sensitive. Its no good being that sensitive on a yard!

Well I wouldn't have complained to the YO I would have had it out with you. I don't do 3rd parties. I would probably have been a bit annoyed, none of us like to hear our horses being called, but knowing horses would have to hold my hands up eventually.
My horse has done the same thing but he took chunks out of a liveries t/o rug and also my old horse. That's horses for you.

It sounds like you meant it as a joke to me. But depends what tone you had at the time?

[/ QUOTE ]

Oh it was a pissed of tone , but then I am trying to keep my horse sound and when she's being chased round the field and she's not the calmest in the field anyway , I was hacked off !

Horse has a reputation for being an utter sod in the field and other liveries have complained about him in the past so she's knows he's not an angel

I'd laugh if you were saying it in a jokey way, but if you were actually genuinely annoyed at my horse then I'd be a bit peeved because horses are horses, and will do irritating things occasionally - it doesn't help to get annoyed at them. I certainly wouldn't complain to the YO though! Knowing me, I'd probably just keep it to myself and be quietly cross with you for a while lol!

No , exactly ... she was on the yard for a further hour after I had said this and she asked where the hay was and talked to me normally

People call my horse alot worse ... mainly walking dog food but I haven't complained to the YO about it!

It depends in the tone of the voice. If you said it in an annoyed, upset way (which is how it comes across) I wouldn't be very happy that what horses do in their field, is "blamed" on me, as I cannot control what my horse does in field.
I wouldn't complain to YO though, as I would hope there would be no harsh feelings?

If I was trying to catch my horse and someone elses horse was chasing her, then I would go back to yard and ask owner to help me catch the monsters!

Horses will be horses, and sometimes they are angels and other days they can be nightmares!

(I'm not saying what happened with you, is wrong BTW)

i would be glad my horse had managed to pee someone off so much lol i would have said my opinions to their face there and then though TBH

Having been in the same position before I feel your pain

- which is why at this yard we all have individual turnout - no more sharing with bar stewards.....

Yep

This is the thing .. that is ideally what I need for Sol but its not an option in the summer fields

I was soo annoyed at the fact that my very mild mannered horse (well in the field!) has completely changed and is at risk of pulling shoes/ or hurting herself further because of X , I called it a bastard

God know what she'll do now I've asked for it to be moved out of the field

I've called nearly everything at work a bar steward. Not to the owners faces though.

[/ QUOTE ]

Haha!! Exactly me and my horse a called worse and i've never complained to my YO about it

I wouldn't be terribly impressed if you called my horse a bar steward. But I guess it's not a hanging offence.......

Surely if you want to keep your horse sound, and not hooning around, your horse should move and not the other liverys'? Sorry if I've got the wrong end of the stick.

But hmm, would depend who said it to me, if it was one of my best friends at the yard, I would have laughed and agreed. If it was someone I didn't know very well or wasn't particularly friends with, yes I'd probably pissed off, horses will be horses at the end of the day...

Well no .. I can see she would be a little annoyed but I didn't call her a bar steward .. its a blinking horse ... not like I caught the thing beat it and then called it names

Bearing in mind I've done this women alot of favours in the past .. I love this is how she re-pays me

Nope . YO knows it would be more hassle to move Sol . Other people have complained about X also so it him that gets the boot not Sol . We had the same problems last year ending up in Sol not going out because he was a nightmare this year seeing as they'd spent the winter together things were going ok ... now the grazing is decreasing he's getting bored and likes to lark about.

X is in the stable next to me , I speak to his owner everyday and we are friends ... or I thought we were friends

Hm. I've called Friend's ned a number of names to her face - she agrees
grin.gif
. Also had mine called everything under the son, and I've agreed
grin.gif
. I know it's not directed at me as that would be pointless.

Have a hot choccy

Sadly its the straw that broken the camels back as people say?!
God I've never been so emotional over something so silly ...
Anyone want a horse?

I would probably agree!! I have called my horses ALOT worse when they have messed me about!!
smile.gif

Oh dear i'm feeling bad now I have been known to call the horse owner that and worse and at volume :s this was after years of provocation though lol they did go to the YO mainly because I was threatening to flush her head down the loo......

In my defence the woman was a complete lunatic that should have been sectioned.....

Oh and PS her horse was very nice and not a bar steward at all
smile.gif

I wouldnt have gone to the YO but if you said it in a pissed off tone I wouldnt have been happy. Horses are horses and the other horse was just being playful and him and sol were having a good time! Not Xs owners fault and X doesnt know you are trying to keep sol sound.
