Horse on our yard was bathed tonight at 6pm - standing on the corner of the coldest part of yard, full shampooo with a cold hose. Poor thing was standing there for just over an hour - before its bath was finished. It has now just been put into a stable with nothing for a bed, and left with a sopping cold rug on.

Yes i know i should have said something but she leaves the yard tomorrow - going to a grass livery yard.... hope the poor thing gets a rug on for the next few days, till it gets some grease back in its coat, and last time i said something i was warned to keep my nose out of other peoples buisness or get kicked off the yard !

All I can say is

!!! Who threatened to kick you off the yard not your YOU surely?

i dont see anything wrong with using the hose, after all its a horse, aslong as its a quick soak, shampoo and rinse. then warm rug on for half our to soak up drips and new rug to dry off. she shoulda had a bed down for him though

I agree - quick soak, rug - then changed into a new one.... but not happening - this is the person whom told me after the horse had been turned out on a frozen field all day, and who's 1 section of hay had all gone by 4.30 pm on a Crimbo Eve, that the horse should learn to "ration itself"... ????!!!!!

Contact The RSPCA - but they are not the best or most knowledgeable for dealing with equine problems. Otherwise, go straight to your local Plod and Vet. Good luck and let us know what happens.

I did and thats when i got told to stop poking my nose or LEAVE the yard. I did say to the owner that if she spent as much on the horses hay as she did at Mcdonalds then no-one would complain - not nice but i was rather angry and then she told me horse was under vet and i said what for Colic it should be under the RSPCA for neglect! Yes i was rude, i was over the top, but that poor horse was so hungry it was eating the most discusting beddng you have ever seen. In fact the muck heap was a far cleaner place than the bed it had.

Does she know any horses that do that? Do they measure their waists lines and worry about getting into the new summer collection?!!

On my old yard I watched one of the teenagers cheerfully bathing their horse in the open, on a freezing day in January with a stiff wind blowing, then left it dripping and miserable while she went off for some lunch. I asked her if it was that warm, perhaps she'd like to strip off and I'd put the hose on her. Needless to say I got badmouthed to everyone, but who cares - I left !
