not the best piccies of him but only ones on my comp!

With a well balanced rider 13 stone, possibly a little bit more, also depends on what sort of work is asked of him
Less for a wobbly novice though

A vet some years ago said that my 16.2hh TB, who is quite a chunky lad with 9 1/2" bone could carry 16 stone, but would assume this excluded the more extreme disciplines.

orrh thanks hun i think so to he is my pride and joy! Hes a bit on the fat side though he doesnt seem to think so! Hes my little angel!

I should think 16 stone would be fine, but you know your horse, if he looks uncomfortable with it you could stop.

thta horse looks lioke he could carry quite a bit of weight although it would depend on fitness and stuff but i no a horse like that carry a tall rugby player for a days hunting every week so he should be up to carry qutie a bit

My partner is 15.5 stone and my cob has 10.5 inches a bone and is 15 hh. I would consider my OH far too heavy even for Jack so I cannot imagine how a horse that seems to be quite fine boned in appearance could possibly carry that much weight for long without damage.
Have you actually measured his bone size to see what he is?
I would say that's the starting point

I believe there is some sort of scale somewhere that will tell you the maximum weight that a horse can carry, without damage.
Our 17.2 ID stallion might have been capable of carrying 16 stone all day hunting when fit, but somehow I can't see how your horse is heavy enough even for light schooling work with that weight.
Sorry but I certainly wouldn't risk it if he were mine.

Borrow a Shire or Clydesdale cross. or take him to local riding school and see what they would put him on first.
