I would definitely be put down!

Recent thread about soundness and some references to people not being field sound did make me chuckle, and got me thinking that if I were a horse, I would definitely have been put down by now :D

- Fractured spine 5 weeks ago, resulting in permanent nerve damage and fairly consistent pain = no more ridden career for horsey me,and a HUGE bute bill.
- Previously broken ankle that I never went to the hospital with, resulting in displacement of bone and a large lump = definitely not field sound or good enough to show in hand.

Not to mention that I am very grumpy when in season :D

I think more of us horsey people would be PTS than we realise!!

Yep, me too. I have SI dysfunction and am allergic to NSAIDs (so that rules out bute). My shoulders have tendonitis. I am definitely unlevel, and in pain constantly. I'd be PTS without a doubt. But I work seven days a week 52 weeks a year despite being in pain and unsound.

I think it would depend on your owner! you might be unfortunate enough to have someone that would sell you on to an inexperienced, first time owner, would would try to ride you because they don't know what lame is and then when in season you will chuck them off and seriously hurt them too

haha

I'd be sound but I'd be very unfit and in need of lots of work to get me up to the level I could be at, in which time I'd probably injury myself again

Rotator cuff - always in pain. Not sure what the equivalent position would be on a horse (somewhere in the shoulder presumably) but if I was a horse I'd be over-dosing on bute just to get through the day :(

It is amazing what we force people to live with yet we will put an animal down for similar injuries.

I would have been put down too. Broken wrist years ago and broken knee recently.

Hocks totally knackered , definitely in "show condition but grazing muzzle is working)veterans class but still thinks should be in youngstock class. Lots of blemishes so working hunter rather than show hunter.

I'd be an old riding school horse, trudging round and round with no-one paying any attention to my myriad of small but niggling ailments and injuries ☺️

not up to competitions as too useless at jumping and a dodgy knee but I could put in loads of general riding/hacking though, would need alot of food and rugs. A poor doer lol I am constantly tired, cold and hungry. But I work hard!
