Yes I thought so too. I somehow (and nice to) was watching shire horses at a rescue centre and then this video came up, which I hadn't seen before. Quite lucky really, it could have been SO much worse. There is a lot of horse power in that ring.
 
Was impressed with the announcer in first clip, asking people to stay calm and quiet!

2nd clip was horrendous, found myself shouting at screen 'stop waving your arms about' :mad:

Both very scary though!
 
The draught horse "sport" looks utterly dangerous, those draughts look totally wired. The driving video is dreadful, seen it before but it still shocks me how stupid people can be, even those supposedly in the know.
 
The second video I saw for the first time last weekend and it made me feel physically sick.

It puts a lot of things into perspective & I just hope I would respond better in an emergency.

In both videos I feel the commentators did a very good job! I might have just screamed 'OMG, OMG, OMG!!' into the mic!!

Don't know, either that or collapse... I couldn't watch it again once I recognized it. Seen it before. :( If I remember right it was human's trying to stop the horses that caused most of the problems.
 
I can't watch it again but I've told myself that it was exhaustion and the people held the horse down whilst it recovered. I've seen it done on the racecourses and most get up ok - that is what I'm telling myself.

These clips have now ensured I will never take up driving!!!! This one is slightly more watchable and not at all horrendous:

I have to be honest if I have ever fallen off and the horse has been running with the reins down, in an arena or somewhere, I've just let the horse run til its ready to stop.

I can't imagine the futility of chasing the bloody thing.
 
I guess we all just get more scared when there is a cart involved and the horses are getting faster and faster and smashing into things.

It is human nature to want to try to do something to stop it getting worse!!!!

There is a difference here in that this vid is of indoor trials and there are no other turnouts in the arena at the time ..... there are obstacles though.

James is a VERY experienced and would have made the best decision for that particular incident imo depending on what was involved perhaps out of shot as to whether to let them run or grab hold.

with driving there's not just reins to catch legs in there are traces too and if the carriage catches on something or the swingle tree breaks that is another leg breaking opportunity :mad:

Yes its dangerous ... just like riding ......I would find watching event falls, particularily rotational ones, just as bad .. or some of those hedges hunting peeps jump :eek: :eek: :eek: :eek:;)

itd sll down to what risks we are prepared to put up with for our love of our particular discipline :cool:
 
Oh I'm not doubting James & that he did the right thing - as I said very brave.

I'm referring to the other clips as horrendous & there clearly wasn't a James on hand to deal with the situation correctly!!

Everything horse is dangerous - Eventing, Grand National, Carriage Driving...! Each to their own - personally I like my chances SJ as the poles do fall down!!!

This vid was on Fugly. The owner of the second horse, who was flipped out, was disabled, which is why she was still sitting in the cart. The second horse collapsed but was OK.
There was a man in there who heroically hung onto another horse that got cannoned into.
 
I couldn't believe how many horses of that size they had in that ring. I agree, could have been much, much worse. Had my heart in my mouth for quite a lot of that!
 
It is all your nightmares come true. I do think the Commentator in the first clip was utterly brillient, not only was she saying the right thing it actually sounded calming. The second clip - what can you say? Glad to see the post that said the horse was ok tho.

I was mainly answering the previous poster to you ;) :D

its one of those things where there is no definitive right or wrong ..... just a spit second risk assessment and a choice made accordingly that only ever is right or wrong retrospectively as well las being subjective :cool:

agree that the commentator on first vid saying the right thing ... stay as calm as poss with with the other horses and the crowd !


It is flipping hard though when you see or experience it happening real time !
 
give that first announcer a medal, she made a huge difference.
poor horses though, jeez.
the horse that fell in the second video was, according to someone who claimed to have been there uninjured.
almost unbelievable how ****ing stupid people are in situations like that, especially horsey people who really should know better...
 
I thought that in the first vid the situation was actually dealt with very well, and the majority of the other horses in the arena (not sure why they all need to be in there though maybe) were very well behaved considering the amount of power that they have. It was unfortunate that the second pair got let go as the orignals had been well pinned down by then.

LOL! I love text - it's so easy for things to get confused and out of context! I'm feeling a bit sensitive today as I think a friend of mine might be in a mood with me because she mistook a Facebook comment - if only the computer could read it in a certain tone of voice!!!!
