Hi all,
Just curious & looking for inspiration!
Am on the hunt for a new saddle as my Prestige jumping saddle does not really fit my boy. He's a TB ex-racehorse with a reasonable wither & well-sprung ribs, so a bigger barrel.
So, what jumping saddle (both XC & SJ) would you buy & why??
Also, what colour would you get... I've always had black, but brown - partic lighter browns - seem to be the 'new black'??
Could you have a brown saddle & a black bridle... or would this look silly?? Horse is a bright chestnut - should I post a pic?
Thanks for replying!
Nicky

i get a made to measure devoucoux!

Saddle - I'm afraid I'd always have a Barry Swaine jump saddle, but only because my boy is a bit 'special needs' when it comes to saddles

I'm not particular about saddle and bridle matching, although it does look better. I've got a black jump saddle, black breastplate and brown bridle....with a black noseband if I use the grackle.....hubby calls me a pykie

but I don't think its that noticable (saving up for new black bridle

Without a doubt....Butet...fantastic,never been able to justify/afford one but there you go. I have a devoucoux and a prestige, have had a delgrange and assorted stubbens...buuut....still,give me a butet any day and I'm sure anyone who has had one, will agree?

Hi sj_mummy,

What did you think of the delgrange?? They do a made to measure service, so was currently thinking of going down this route. Do any of the others do a made to measure service?? Why is the Butet your fav?
Many thanks for all the comments / suggestions.... so far Devoucoux is looking one of the fav's - do they offer made to measure?
If I'm going to spend this sort of cash then it may as well be right!!

Without a doubt, a Total Saddle Solutions one, they are top of the range treeless, v.expensive but totally worth it. They do a jumper, two dressage and a gp. They look fab, and your horse will thank you for it, and you will realise as your horse changes just what damage treed saddles can do. Invest in one of these and you will not regret it, you and your horse will love it! I have not looked back! Well worth the money.

Hey!
My Delgrange was the prettiest saddle I ever had, I had it for several years and it lasted really well (riding 7-8 horses a day) But I found for me (bit skinny) that the proportions were a bit strange (where the knee rolls were and so on) Made to measure will cure that obviously. And it wasn't really versatile,I really couldn't use it on some of my horses, size wise!
The Devoucoux is (I still share it with my daughter) THE most comfy saddle ever! But for some reason the insides of my knees (those knees again!) get rubbed raw when jumping ,and I can only use it occasionally and definitely not in the big classes.Shame!
I now jump in a Prestige and I love it!It fits all three of my 'Darco's' it looks fab and very comfy(slightly harder than the Devoucoux) and is very lightweight. It has survived an attack from a teething lab puppy and being dragged back to the lorry by my 5yo (daughter)
HOWEVER! I'm still dreaming of my Butet!(That I don't have...yet) They have all of the above and more.A friend once told me that it's practically impossible to fall off from a Butet (But she is a mega rider and never falls off anyway!)
So...Hope some of this was helpful, you can tell that it's a subject close to my..........heart!

IF you like Prestige, why not stick with the brand, but try a different model? I *think* the Paris D is for rounder horses. I have a Golden Star which fits my TB perfectly, and tbh I cant remember riding in a modern saddle as nice. On the (very) old saddle front I had a Count Toptani MK2 which is a fab saddle for breaking, it fits the youngsters when they have very little muscle and has the most secure seat ever.
Colour, I am afraid that my Prestige is Black, but my bridle is brown. I always prefer brown tack as tradition states that brown for the country and black for the town, from when people had 2 sets of harness. Also nowadays it is thought that leather is often dyed black to hide imperfection and poor quality.
I think Lucinda Fredricks has a Toptani-alike saddle out, I would be interested to see what it was like.

Without a doubt 100% agree the Butet is far superior to any other jumping saddle, my daughter knows she has one!!!!!!!!!!!!
