IF you could start your horse's wardrobe again from scratch without the expensive mistakes (and cheap ones which add up), what brands & products would you buy?

Saddle

Bridle

Girth

Stirrups

Numnah/pad/halfpad

T/O rugs

Coolers

Stable rugs

and anything else!!!

I can't answer all of the categories but can offer this -

Saddle - Ideal event

Numnah/half pad - Bartl half pads & the everyday cotton nuumed hi-wither numnahs

Turnout rugs - Weatherbeetas ( all I can afford) seem pretty fab!

Coolers - Stell's coolex fits like a glove.

There's so many other things I'm seriously tempted by inc sprenger bow balance stirrups and wintec elastic girths and albion bridles BUT... what's really worth having?

Saddle - Thorowgood T4 hi-wither

Bridle - sabre crank nose band padded dressage bridle

Girth - thorowgood

Stirrups - stubben

Numnah/pad/halfpad -polly pad or nuu-med gel pad thingy one.

T/O rugs -Rambo wug

Coolers - Thermatex

Stable rugs - polywarmas! amazing!

OH AND STEM CELL TREATMENT!

Ooh, what a nice thought!
Saddle - Barrie Swaine or Ideal.
Bridle - Sabre
Numnah - nuumed high-wither cotton, + prolite
Stirrups - sprenger bendy ones.
Leathers - buckleless ones
Girths - elastic-in-the-middle, padded leather, or wintec chafeless.
Turnout rugs - FAL and Horseware
Thermatex rugs.

My kit: Ariat Grasmeres, Cavallo and RTS Bentex breeches, Anky and Musto Jackets.

especially on saddles, i would have saved literally thousands of pounds if i'd known then what i know now...

I really like the saddle and bridle I've got but I would love to have a dressage saddle too.

Good quality stirrup leathers.

Would like to try some sprenger stirrups.

Wish I hadn't bought a cheap waffle rug - would like a Mark Todd cotton summer sheet instead.

Would like a better girth that is elasticated at both ends - not sure what make though?

A good quality leather breastplate - got a cheaper one and although ok it doesn't look that smart anymore.

I have got a fleecey cooler which is cheap and cheerful, but would love a proper coolex one.

I am really happy with the Mark Todd and Weatherbeeta turnout rugs.

I also got the cheapest rain sheet I could find, it's ok but doesn't fit brilliantly, again would like a MT one as they fit George so well.

So sprengers & wintec girths are worth the money?

Oh dear, my bank balance isn't going to reward me

Yes, I wish I hadn't overspent on the horse (ha - who doesn't??) so I didn't have to buy cheap things to get me started... So many horsey products are utterly cr*p!

Saddle - Jefferies or WOW.

Bridle - Sabre or Jefferies.

Girth - Wintec or Thoroughgood. Would love a really nice leather, padded girth though.

Stirrups - Sprengers. So worth it. I love mine.

Numnah/pad/halfpad - A nice sheepskin one & then a few good quality cotton ones.

T/O rugs - FAL, Rambos & Horseware

Coolers - Thermatex.

Stable rugs - N/A at the moment.

I learnt in the beginning that the more expensive rugs were a better investment - especially when you have rug shredders for horses so I have an assortment of fal, horseware, premier equine, mark todd and pessoa rugs with a couple of weatherbeetas and shires that have survived. Same makes for t/o and stable. I also have a great Tesco's turnout which has also managed to survive and cost me about 1/4 of the price of the horsewares.

Saddles - Saddle company (x4) - if I had to choose any other make I would get Ideal or BS (the guy who makes and flocks my saddles at SC used to work for BS so I know the workmanship is good).

Bridles, stirrup leathers, stirrups - have kieffers and like them - would probably choose sabre as an alternative. Not that bothered about the stirrups.

Girth - have padded Jeffries although I also really like the albion dressage girth which feels really soft.

Numnahs - only have nuumed hi wither ones now but did have a few useless cottage craft ones (not sure where/why I got those but the fit is appalling.) I also have about 100 sheepskins and spent a fortune on Bartl and Stephens ones to discover the new cottage craft range which is about half the price and so much better - so I wish I could swap all my bartl ones for cc ones.

Bits - one of mine has always had mylers. the other one I spent a fortune on and tried everything and he has ended up in a mark todd snaffle for £6.99. So wished I hadnt spent all that money on those mylers and ns bits.

Saddle - WOW or Ideal
Bridle - I love my Heritage
Girth - LOVE the Amerigo ones (never tried one but have drooled over them in the shop!)
Stirrups - Sprenger Bow Balance (only those over the "normal" Sprengers because of the wide tread)
Numnah/pad/halfpad - NuuMed/Griffin everyday high wither numnahs, basic, thin, hard-wearing, velcro attachments - what more could one want?!
laugh.gif

T/O rugs - Rambo and/or Fal
Coolers - Mark Todd Coolex, Weatherbeeta fleeces
Stable rugs - Weatherbeeta (I pretty much have a whole range!)
Other - boots - Woof Wear brushing boots, Equilibrium wraps, Dalmar XC boots. Bits - Neue Schule
For me - Ariat boots and chaps, some made-to-measure long field boots, Charles Owen hats, Rodney Powell body protector, Roeckl gloves
Horse - forget the warmbloods and Irish ones, and get an Andalusian instead

Ah, to win the lottery/marry rich!!

Seems like the same brands are coming up pretty much again and again!

This board should set up like a "product award" thread or something which reviews all the major brand's products...

e.g. Rambo = good, masta = slip all over the place

You know?

Saddle - Devoucoux or Amerigo

Bridle- Otto Schumacher, those bridles are to die for!

Girth - I love my Otto schumacher one, so i'd probably buy that again.

Stirrups - Would buy My Sprenger Bow balance ones.

Numnah/pad/halfpad - I don;t think i'd swap the Albion dressage square , my Mattes half pad or my horseware sheepskin saddlecloth.

T/O rugs: Would buy Mark Todd everytime!

Coolers: Mark Todd Coolex

Stable rugs: FAL, Mark Todd or Horseware

and anything else!!! Pikeur or Eurostar breeches, Konig boots, De Niro boots, and lots of Joules, Anky, Pikeur and Kyra K clothes!!

It wouldn't be tack, I'd want an Oakley or Whittaker wagon and get my HGV licence, ooh and also get a school put in at my field (and a couple more stables!!)
grin.gif

Saddle - Balance International (GPJ and Dressage)

Bridle - Jefferies hunter bridle

Girth - Professional's Choice

Stirrups - MDC Ultimate

Numnah/pad/halfpad - Stephens & Balance pads

T/O rugs - Rambo

Coolers - Thermatex

Stable rugs - Mark Todd

Brushing boots - Woof double velcro

Ariat boots, Equissentials breeches & Musto fleeces/jackets for me and a Cover-All indoor arena to ride in.

Sending ((((Vibes)))) to the Universe!!

On the tack front would not change any items now i finaly own, good comfortable stuff and happy about my mistakes as am able to advise friends and they dont then have to make the same mistakes and hopefully vice versa.
Also happy with my cheap little lorry that does what it meant to be able to do horses loads of room and happy, me squashed up in the front, but only sleeping and eating in it at shows.
Would have some more stables and a horse walker and a indoor school.
Also, to be able to buy me some nice stuff so compared to my horses i dont look like the poor relative

in addition to above (got rudely interupted by work meeting!)
would love to buy them all either rambo hoody or a snik and span-but for 3 neddys that would be alot!
also would love to get them all a hw and mw full neck rambo turnout.
and more land for turnout and making own hay.

Just bought a sabre bridle...

OH DEAR.

Also, it's black. And my saddle's brown. And it's a nice thick dressage style bridle.

I hope that no black Ideal dressage saddles come on ebay for ridiculously small amounts...
