If so many of us.....

so would this tendency also in some way explain the rise of the use of calmers - I didn't hear of them until 4 years ago and now they are every where...

It is incredibly easy to feed your horse low, or indeed no, sugar feed: manage grass in the growing season, feed stemmy hay or haylage and DO NOT feed good doers hard feed, or indeed any bagged stuff at all if they are already in good flesh. Why on earth people insist on feeding already fat horses eludes me.

So agree with this^ My cob goes into winter well covered even after coming in every single day to soaked hay & turn out at night. During the winter months he comes in at night to a full haynet (haylege) has no food or supplements apart from a salt lick in his stable and goes into spring looking lean (as he should do). His unshod feet are fantastic and is in good health.

If it ain't broke don't fix it!

My Mare did have Happy hoof (small handful) she needed this beause she needs her Glucosimine supplment.

However after great advice from Oberon, she is now on Fast Fibre, Micronised Linseed and Tumeric. She has also has a salt lick.

Can't feed her sugar as she goes crazy. I fed her haylege for about 3 weeks, NEVER again!!!!

I feed Mollychaff, rather embarrassingly it has only to do with the fact I adore the smell of it and it masks anything. So littlun has it around worming times if shes being awkward.

Having such good doing tb/tb xs and other I have never had to regularly hard feed and any supplements simply go in fast fibre.

Find Lami approved hi fi the scariest in terms o misleading info!
