If someone offered you the right price for your neddie here and now...

Nope, I wouldn't sell my girl. It has taken a year of blood, sweat, and a lot of tears to get her rideable. I have too many emotional ties to her now.

Unfortuanately for her, no i couldent. she has helped me through some really rough times, and has taught me everything. sadly, she has to be put on loan whilst i am at uni (if i can find anyone that wants her

), but i will have her back. i couldent stand not knowing where she was. soppy mare that i am.
Sarah

No I would never sell Gin. She has taught me so much and if it wasnt for her I wouldnt be able to ride half as well as I can do. She is priceless to me even when she has her moments.

Having mulled this over whilst reading the posts.... as a riding school owner, the horses obviously have a 'shelf life' as hard as that sounds...

I would never work the horses till they drop, they are retired at a certain age or after a few years of school work...
However....there are some that I would not let go of for any price!
Harley & Phantom, never ever. Magic absolutely not, here for life and willl probably do as I am doing with my other special pony, Poppy; retire her and loan her out for gentle hacking, but will always be mine.

Minstrel (coloured cob, 14.3) name your price! lol. No, if someone wanted an honest, family cob and the offer was good enough to buy two more forward going horses, then I would accept
smile.gif

Spud; well he is new and I really love him, he is far too happy here to contemplate a price, he is an excellent novice horse as well as a more serious rider's, so invaluable to me.
Harry, 11.1 welshie, oh my.. he is gorgeous, very underused as he is titchy, but he has come a long way from when I first got him. He was a terrified bunny, headshy, scared and took a long while to trust me. I would be heartbroken to part with him, but...... a really good offer to a home where he can ride/drive have fun and show, I would probably, reluctantly say yes.

Lucky, a very sensible, foward going novice/experinced female owner only! She will be retired when she has done her bit for us, and yes, a good price for this mare who has changed from being an obese wild mare to one of the favs of the yard, I would say yes (and be very sad)

Offers anyone?
laugh.gif
lol...

Having had to part with horses for various reasons (age/arthritis injury etc) it is totally hard and each one is very sadly missed... but the nature of the business dictates, until I get my own land, then they can stay and retire with me.

At this moment in time, no for whatever amount of money was offered. I've put so much time, effort and money in to getting him where he is now and we're only just starting to reap the rewards. Also, with the setbacks i've had this year, I havnt been able to do as much as I wanted so I want to make the most of it next year.
Though it is playing at the back on my mind that I am going to probably have to sell him in 2 years time before I go of to uni (if i go to uni) as I wouldnt be able to juggle the studying and the riding and I wouldnt be able to afford it. I have thought about loaning him but I have a while yet untill I have to decide want I want to do. And up till them, im going to get the most out of it and just enjoy myself.

I wonder how many of 'No, not on your nellie' brigade would actually change their stance if a truly life changing sum of money were involved

Well, she did say a fair price, not silly money.

This wil sound bad but to be honest if someone offered me the right HOME for my chap they could have him.

Since I have him on full livery and he's retired if someone would deffo take care of him for life and he could have a home with loads of room to wander with other horses etc then I'd let him go.

I provide for him the best I can but I'd deffo let someone else have him if they could offer him more than me.

But as we all know that's impossible to prove/guarantee so he'll be staying with me.

One of them, yes. He's a thoroughly nice chap and if someone came along who offered more than a good price for him then I'd let him go as he can look after himself and is such a good lad, I reckon he would find it easy to get a good home and be well treated.

The mare, no I wouldn't sell her. She's a very sensitive madam who could very easily be misinterpreted due to her trying too hard approach on life. If she put in 100% instead of 110% she could probably be more successful!
She's a one person horse and we have a lot of trust in each other.

I'm with the harder-hearted ones. The gelding in my avatar was a very succesful eventer and oneof the only horses my family has ever insured. When he broke down the insurance paid out over £5k in vets fees, then when he was written off (he was written off for his insured purpose which was 3 day eventing) would pay out 60% of his insured value if we kept him alive, and 100% if we put him down. Decided to turn down that 40% and give him a chance, but if he wasn't happy put him down - that was not a horse to wander round a field lame. Glad I have, he is now doing dressage in a lovely home out on loan. His insurance cost over £1k a year and we actually received more money from the insurance company than we ever gave them, so it worked out well for us. None of my current 3 are insured, one is homebred the others were cheap.

So, after that ramble, my answer is yes if I was offered a price that was a true reflection of their value I would take it, especially for the geldings, as they could break a leg tomorrow....

so am i

If i was offered daft money i would defo say YES and go out buying a youngster and train it again - as at mo i couldn't buy my horses on open market as prices are soooo........... daft

I can only assume that either these people have a tonne of money and need no more.....OR they have absolutely no concept of what a lot of money is ........OR they know that there is no way in hell that their horse could ever be worth any serious money.

yep - I'd sell them and the kids too for the right money

All of our ponies apart from Glen and Marcus have always been for sale - we only bought them to have some fun on them and sell on. whether it be to keep for a year or 3yrs.
Glen will always be ours and I'll never sell him (although we were offered good money for him last year but because he is old and a grumpy old quirky git I'd rather keep him to make sure he gets what he needs in life - Glen has given us everything)

i was asked if i would sell Mouse on Sunday and my mum said no (i was still riding her at the time so i didn't hear it) but after mum told had told me it got me thinking about it and i don't think i could sell her
Lottie isn't going anywhere, well no one would want her but i would never ever sell her she is to special to me.

Nope - certainly wouldn't sell Amymay.

Was offered a lot of money for her (relatively speeking) several years ago by a woman who wanted a good little pony hunter for her daughter (Amymay's just under 15hh).

Don't regret not taking the money - even though many thought I was totally mad!!

Sophie - No had her for 15 years and done soo much stuff with her.
Sunny - No as only just got him and as he is a foal I want to see what he will be like (V good dressge hore I hope!!!)
Maggie - No as only just got her too and she is also a foal, so want to see what she is like. Hope to breed fomr her eventually.
