Dog is?

I say this because my friend is irritating and I find her dog intolerable, to describe her, she is a high pitched moaning whinge bag, and the dog is a humungusly fat and spoilt with no manners
mad.gif
and tonight I had a full on rant at her OH which nearly ended in a scrap in the field
blush.gif
shocked.gif
tongue.gif

Basically said dog is ruined, no other dog can touch his toys or treats, I have seen his owner literally dive into the grass to grab a piece of cheese that my OH was randomly dishing out on a dog walk, and because her dog is slow and fat he could not get the cheese as quick as the others
grin.gif
, so she jumped forward and dived to the floor yelling "get off it's Oscars"
shocked.gif
to the other dogs
crazy.gif
who looked at her along with me an OH like she was a crazy b!tch
tongue.gif

Cue the full on fight
blush.gif
grin.gif

I took a rescue collie to the field with my dogs to show a gentleman that owns collies and very interested in offering her a home, she is a lovely collie and has the typical collie traits, like herding
smirk.gif
grin.gif

Upon meeting my friends spaniel she began to herd the fat spaniel(possibly thought it was a deformed sheep
grin.gif
grin.gif

Friends OH came with her, which was a shock cos he never walks, and he is pretty miserable
tongue.gif

He immediately said, if that dog does not stop doing that (herding) to Oscar I will kick it's teeth out
mad.gif

Picture CALA turning red with rage and my friend and my OH looking very worried..................I said,"you would have to get through me first, touch that dog and I will ki!ck the living sh!t out of you"
mad.gif
you have no idea about dogs and what she is doing is very normal and she is harming nobody, she is a rescue with a bad start in life and she is learning to intergrate and hopefully we will help her minimise the herding, although personally I like it
grin.gif
so such your big fat mouth, I also added the next time his dog nips another which is does frequently and I have had to step in to stop it getting savaged to death, it will be ok for me to kick his teeth out
smirk.gif
he shut up and was
smirk.gif
silent for the remainder of the dogs meeting then demanded his OH, (my friend) left the field................. and the gentleman who came to see her with his collies took her
grin.gif
grin.gif
he thought she was lovely
smirk.gif

I know I have aggression issues
blush.gif
, but it peeves me and the moral of the story, the owner irritates me and so does the dog
blush.gif
grin.gif

Also during frizby throwing, all the dogs where running for frizby, about 10 of them and Oscar could not keep up because he is about 25kg when he should be more like 12-15kg
crazy.gif
and friends OH said "let Oscar have it" it's not fair he cannot get it in time
crazy.gif
mad.gif
Arghhhhhhhh WTF.....get a life u spiv, it's a dog not a bloody kid.
Another thing.....she begs for me to walk with her, cos she says they dogs are well worn out after playing with mine, but the whole walk is, her shouting at other dogs for knocking him or getting the frizby b4 him or running to fast for him
crazy.gif
crazy.gif

OK, leaving the post
blush.gif

Hee hee!

No I think you'll find that owners and dogs pretty much take on each others characteristics - I'd agree that if you don't like the person the dog invariably drive you mad as well.....
grin.gif

If their spangle was its proper weight it wouldn't have a problem keeping up with the rest and would get its turn with the frisby - Sweep even in his dotage can outrun most dogs for a stick and once he has got they don't get it off him easily.....
wink.gif
tongue.gif

I can think of several like that - and people think I'm intolerant.............
grin.gif
grin.gif
grin.gif

I's ridiculous..........I said "if u where not a feeder the dog would not be so bloody fat and would beable to keep up", it was only a month ago it choaked on a coocked pork chop because they feed the dog to bursting point
mad.gif

It's seriously like their child is being badly done to and they are fighting for his right.............they sounds like idiots.

Poor dog
frown.gif

I feel sorry for the dog
frown.gif
- I try so hard to make sure all my animals are kept as slim as possible - especially as most are greedy gits and will eat until they burst!!
blush.gif

PS - look on my shouty dog post - someone said Dobermans are clever and Rotties are as thick as a housebrick.......

crazy.gif
I will try and get a picci of it....it's disgusting
crazy.gif
and she won't cut it's food down, cos she feels sorry for him whe she is eating
crazy.gif

Ps, I have never come across a cocker that cannot keep up during play and be knackered after 10 mins of play
crazy.gif

Just out of interest, do they have children?

Sounds like this dog is their 'child' and quite frankly they are doing very well in sending it to an early grave
frown.gif
Poor thing, as you have said, it's their fault, not the dogs. You are quite right to be p**sed off with them
mad.gif

The heaviest one weighs 15kg!

10 mins!!

Otto went for a 4 hour walk yesterday and would have kept going longer if he could!

LOL they sound like the people over the road - their JRT is their baby and is grossly overweight and spoiled
crazy.gif
They even asked their neighbours to rehome their cats because they were upsetting the dog
crazy.gif
crazy.gif

Then again - I'm irritating

Exactly.....u can see why I am enraged, my dogs run for hours and because they are fit, my friend says it's unfair for Oscar......I say "tough sh!t" she knows Im bad tempered so she never tries to rile me, her OH maybe learn that tonight
smirk.gif
grin.gif

I see more and more people projecting human feelings and urges onto their dogs.

I was told off by my own mother a few weeks ago because I said there was no way I would put a dog through invasive and painful surgery/treatment in the long term and would rather PTS. She told me to shush because the dog was in the room!!!

I think overfeeding a dog is the same if not worse than starving it, there seems to be a real 'if I overfeed him he will depend on me and love me more' thing going on these days.

To me it denotes a mental weakness in the owner or, er, parent by equating food with affection or love (waits to be flamed...)
I know dogs perhaps think that way (she gives me food, so I love her) but we are humans and we have a responsibility to treat the dog like dogs are supposed to be treated.
Not how we would treat a child and not how dogs would like to be treated, ie eating and sleeping all day
tongue.gif

My bitch is very attached to my mother and is like a wee sponge - very highly strung, irrational, evasive and vocal!!!
It sounds horrible but I can see her have an effect on the boy and I try and keep them apart, he gets more clingy and needy the more he is around her
blush.gif

A cocker at 25kg
shocked.gif
, Evie only weighs 32 kg and she is a 15 month old GSD, and although that is on the light side she is not a starvation case, just very athletic. They may think they love their dog but it ain't going to be around very long if it is that much overweight
frown.gif

Ets. Just looked at KC website, Cocker breed standard says weight 13 - 14.5 kg.

Exactly MM.........the vet told her it was diabetes waiting to happen, she said she has tried but jsut cannot get the weight off....he lost 7kg when he stayed with me for a week
smirk.gif

You hit the nail on the head there HH, she does think he loves her more when she feeds him up and she said her goes in the huff when he does not get atleast half of her tea and she feels bad for him cos he must be hungy
crazy.gif

She always says this is ot fair on Oscar, thats not fair, I feel sorry for him, he is not happy blahhhhhhhhhh.she is always putting human feeling on the bloody mutt
mad.gif

Its sad isn't it? I have met lots of people who have dogs as substitute children and in their mind they are the caring, best in the world, wonderful owners. Who said ignorance is bliss?
frown.gif

If they are that set in their ways over their dog I doubt very much you will change their attitude towards him, it doesn't sound as if they are taking your angst on board.

What a shame that the dog will suffer from his overweight in the near future all due to his doting owners.
confused.gif

And unfortunately it's so very common - if only we could educate these people - there must be a way........

I haven't read all the posts so forgive me if I am repeating myself. We were pretty protective of our wolfhound when he was alive. If a dog was bothering him by bouncing on him, which he hated, we did ask the owner to do something about it, the alternative might be disasterous due to the size difference. Our dog was very passive but if the herding was not really bothering the fat dog, why interfere? We used to giggle at our dog as only towards the end of his life did he get the concept of other dogs play and on a walk 2 friends dogs were running with a stick between them having a ball and ignoring our dog. The interaction was fascinating as our dog tried to break them up by mock growling and assuming the puppy play position whilst bouncing towards them. The other dogs cheerfully ignored him and broke off (both were whippit/lurcher types and 100 x faster than a large wolfhound) poor Haz, although fit could not keep up and the owners and myself had a great laugh at poor Hazzie's expense! After all, Haz was having fun! These people sound like they do everything for the dog and might be the type who buy designer clothes for it! The aggressive 'assault' is what I find unblieveable. I have threatened other owners when their dogs have attacked mine but I mean attack.... they have 2 alternatives, do something that will control their dogs, or if they don't want me to intervene, take their chances with leaving 86kg of dog no alternative but to fight? Incidentally Haz developed his own method of defence towards the end, he would avoid confrontation like the plague but if cornered would break free run away, turn and run at the offending dog, stick his nose under the dogs stomach and bull toss it into oblivion! I was shocked as hell but delighted! It sorted out the natural order of things without ever injuring the other dog. Humans make me so mad the way they anthropomorphise dogs! I always say this to potential dog owners... if you want a dog, find out what the hell it was bred to do, then stick to it as closely as you can and you will have a happy dog. Neurotic dogs are 99.9% of the times underexercised and under stimualted. Collies are fav. contenders as people think that twice around the block and 5 minutes with a frisbee is 'enough exercise'! That drives me Insane!

Oh CALA, I'm sorry but I was giggling as I read that and then you used the word spiv which nearly put me over the edge
grin.gif

But I can't help but feel desperately sorry for the little cocker
frown.gif
25kg is a disgrace! I know Beastie ain't no lightweight, but she's nowhere near that kind of weight!

25kg is about how much Henry weighed when he went into the Dogs Trust, I will post a before pic when I get home tonight so you can see just how fat he was. He is a big cocker with a fairly stocky build, now weighs in at about 17kg and fat scores well (ok I know that's for horses but it works for me
grin.gif
) It took about 5 months to get him to this size as I took it quite gentley to start with.

I feel very strongly about fat animals, I really think that it should be taken more seriously as a welfare concern, as serious fatness can have all sorts of long term consequences - such as Henry's hip problems. We have so many horses at work that have had awful problems because they were allowed to be fat beasts and I hate to see it. Many of these horses are now non-ridden companions due to their previous size - while the skinnies, which look more dramatic, come back in less than half ther time and generally have no further problems (as long as their skinniness was due to underfeeding, not other issues).

Cala, please dognap and send Fatty Lumpkin to me. I'll have him trim in a few months, and there'll be no more bad manners either - can't stand ill mannered dogs
mad.gif

id have cracked the OH just for saying it! ass!!!!

U sound to have a temper control similar to mine!
smile.gif

My collie herds but as others say the other dogs ignore it entertain themselves and beau thinks he is doing a bang up job!!!!! silly cow!

And as others said u feel sorry for the dog being so obese!!!!

It doesnt sound like its got too many bad manner issues and the owners are compensating! (but that cud just be from ur OP)

Crazyness! there should be dog owner exams before anyone is allowed to get one!

nutters

Your friend doesn't happen to be a 70-year-old piously Christian old lady, does she? Because her dog (and she herself) sounds exactly like my Grandma's dog! He's a cocker spaniel and is the WORST mannered dog I have ever met. He will try to climb up on the kitchen counter when she is cooking, and he even clambers onto her lap while we're sat at the dinner table and tries to steal food off her plate! I've never once seen her discipline him beyond a gentle push to get him down off her lap - she never tells him off or lets him know that what he's doing is naughty, so of course he does it again next time! He tried to do it to me once and I just gave him a stern "NO" and she was horrified at me for 'shouting' at her dog.
crazy.gif

The worst thing is that we brought Leah and Poppy with us when we went to see them once, and Georgie (the cocker) spent the whole time trying to mount them and would not leave them alone - Leah gets VERY stressed if she feels threatened, and kept trying to run away. I wouldn't have been surprised if she'd growled to warn him off, but she didn't, she just kept running away from him... and then my grandma had the nerve to say "Don't bring Leah next time, she's scaring Georgie"!!!
mad.gif
mad.gif
mad.gif

Can you tell I don't get on with my grandma?
smirk.gif

Anyway, I think you need some nicer friends! And the poor spangle's owners need a good kick up the arse. What about when people tell them about all the horrible illnesses their dog could get from being overweight - do they still not listen? What kind of loving "mum" would let their "baby" get ill and almost certainly die just because they don't want it to make sad eyes at them?!

WOLLY, I absoloutly agree with you....I would not stand and watch my dogs benig humped to death by randy dogs(it's my per peeve), that riles me, or a dog attacking mine, I would step in and reprimand the dog......my friend knows I deal with lots of rescues, I was the one who helped her get her 2 rescues(not from me though)
smirk.gif
and I can control the dogs in my care and would never let a dog be harmed........ she did not have to go to the field, but she is a nosey cow
smirk.gif
and her shepherd spends her life attacking other dogs randomly, which I find irritating, esp and she never bothers to correct her, instead she asks me to stop her or expects me to protect her against other dogs attacking her back
crazy.gif

It may sound od me saying this, but she sees the rescues as second class and feels they should not get the attention the "OWNED" dogs get
crazy.gif
but I do class every rescue as my own, aslong as they are with me, and I im patient with them , esp ones that have had a rough ride, otherwise I would never beable to help them, this little collie was doing nothing wrong, except displaying her breed traits, and Oscar did not even notice her around him, it's nothing she has not done with all my dogs at one stage(I just never felt the need to kick her teeth out)
grin.gif
grin.gif
.............but the pig ignorant owner sure did
smirk.gif
, and as I told them, she will stop in a second, and she did
smirk.gif

LMAO re hazzy head butting the dogs (I have seen dogs do that, it's funny as hell
