How much grass will grow do you think?

All horses now (apart from the 3 little ones) are out in the hay field (hay what little of it has been cut) and plan to keep them there until they are switched to the winter fields - well i think thats the plan anyway!

we can't stop the grass growing here!

our starvation paddock has been empty for 5 weeks now and the tub trugs used for water have already been totally lost in there.

Neither can we.. The grass willl grow.. how much depends on how good your gorund is.. if its too good.. it may start to seed which wont me too clever..

Our fields are all being grazed and the grass is out doing the grazing lol

My field was cut beginning of July and I wish the grass would stop growing! I do not have enough for another cut but far too much for my good doer to eat off over winter!!

Our hay fields have all been cut and now are rested till november for winter. All looking lovely and green and lush. We have grass all winter off these fields. Iff you have no grass now it would be worth having your fields soil analysed and make a decision about when needs doing. the pH should be around 6.5. I checked all mine and we ranged from a 5 to a 5.5 last year so no fertiliser just lime in varying quantities on all fields. It has made a huge difference all ready - no buttercups and far better quality grass. Autumn would be fine to spread either lime or fertiliser according to whats needed and if you do it as early as possible it will boost the grass available prior to winter. The best time to fertilise would be in early spring to boost for hay growth as you can then leave th ehorses off for several weeks. But you should only need them off for 10 days with lime provided it rains well in that time.

horses were taken off hay field in march, cut june, we are now knee deep in grass again! - it then becomes their october-march field. so yes it should grow

in fact it will cos the last 2 years we made hay last week of aug and by october had stacks of grass for winter

the grass at my yard doesnt stop growing our winter fields are full of grass by about may after the horses have been out of them for just over a month and they then get left to grow to use as haylage fields we're lucky where we are as we get at least2 cuts of each haylage field

Well if our grass is anything to go by, we will have enough for all the sheep and both neds to winter on just the pony paddock!!! They are both in starvy and I feel awful as they are surrounded by nearly foot deep grass!!!
